What is happening?

Essex County Council

The Essex County Council (Colchester Borough) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019" will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping at Any Time’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above length of road only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.

The works are scheduled to commence after 6th August 2026, as stated on a valid permit. The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on One.Network. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.

The clearway is required for the safety of the public and workforce while clearway and cycleway construction works are undertaken by Octavius Infrastructure Ltd.

The Order came into effect on 6th August 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

From a point approximately 50m east of its junction with Priory Street for a distance of approximately 75m in a easterly direction

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) (Streetworks No.10) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close those lengths of road in the City of Colchester, as detailed in the Schedule.

The works are scheduled to commence after 6th August 2026, as stated on a valid permit. The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on One.Network. The roads will be closed to facilitate each phase and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while clearway and cycleway construction works are undertaken by Octavius Infrastructure Ltd.

The Order came into effect on 6th August 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

From its junction with East Street for a distance of approximately 55m in a south easterly direction

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

1. To temporarily introduce a 20mph speed restriction in that length of East Hill, Colchester, from its junction with Priory Street to its junction with Brook Street a distance of approximately 300m (restriction in both directions).

2. To temporarily introduce a 20mph speed restriction in that length of Guildford Road, Colchester, from its junction with East Hill for a distance of approximately 55m in a northerly direction (restriction in both directions).

3. To temporarily introduce a 20mph speed restriction in that length of Rosebery Avenue, Colchester, from its junction with East Hill for a distance of approximately 55m in a southerly direction (restriction in both directions).

4. To temporarily suspend the one-way restriction in that length Priory Street, Colchester from its junction with Queen Street to its junction with East Hill as detailed in “The Colchester Borough (Priory Street) (One Way) order 1975”.

5. To temporarily suspend the one-way restriction in that length High Street, Colchester, from its junction with Head Street to its junction with Queen Street as detailed in “The Borough of Colchester Borough (Various Streets) (One Way) order 1963”.

6. To temporarily suspend the bus lane in that length High Street, Colchester from its junction with Queen Street for a distance of approximately 50m in a north westerly direction as detailed in “The Essex County Council (High Street, North Hill & Middleborough, Colchester) (Bus Lane) Order 2014”.

7. To temporarily introduce a 3m width restriction in that length of East Hill, Colchester, from its junction with Queen Street to its junction with Brook Street a distance of approximately 575m.

The works are scheduled to commence after 6th August 2026, as stated on a valid permit. The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on One.Network. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the roads.
