Please note that the Notice of Intention relating to the Borough of Reading (Reading Festival) (Temporary Road Restrictions) Order 2026, published in the Reading Chronicle on 6 August 2026, contained incorrect dates within item 15.
In item 15, the words “from 12 noon on Tuesday 18 August 2026 until 5.00p.m. on Monday 24 August 2026” shall be deleted and replaced with the words “from 12 noon on Tuesday 25 August 2026 until 5.00p.m. on Monday 31 August 2026”
(HEXHAM ROAD) (TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2026
Reading Borough Council has made an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily suspend the parking bays and double yellow line restrictions on the south side of Hexham Road from its junction with Northumberland Avenue to outside 8 Hexham Road and impose a no stopping, waiting or loading/unloading at any time restriction within those parking bays and double yellow lines.
The Order will come into force from 17 August - 31 October 2026. Should the works take longer than expected the restriction will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order is necessary for carriageway and footway realignment works.
(MOUNT PLEASANT/SILVER STREET)
(TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2026
Reading Borough Council has made an Order in accordance with section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily:
- Prohibit buses and HGVs from entering Silver Street from London Road or London Street.
- Suspend the length of the parking bays on Mount Pleasant from outside numbers 79-89 and impose a no stopping, waiting or loading/unloading at any time restriction within those bays.
- Suspend the cycle lane on Mount Pleasant between its junctions with Highgrove Terrace and Highgrove Street.
The Order will come into force from 17-21 August 2026. Should the works take longer than expected the restriction will remain in force for up to 18 months or until the completion of the works, whichever is earlier. The Order is necessary for new water connection works outside 80 Mount Pleasant. A signed diversion route will be in place for buses and HGVs.
(READING FESTIVAL)
(TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTIONS) ORDER 2026
Reading Borough Council has made an Order in accordance with sections 14(1)(a), 14(7) and 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to temporarily restrict traffic on the highways as specified below on the dates and times as specified below. The Order is necessary to facilitate the holding of Reading Festival. Signed diversion routes will be in place where applicable.
The Order will come into force on 14 August - 04 September 2026 and its effect will be as follows:
1. That from 7.00p.m. until 6.00a.m. on each consecutive night from Thursday 27 August 2026 until Monday 31 August 2026 Footpath No 1 Reading will be closed to all pedestrians from a point approximately 539 metres west of its junction with Footpath 17 Reading, and continuing to a point 1,250 metres further west of that point.
2. That from Friday 14 August 2026 until Friday 04 September 2026, Cow Lane (Footpath 17 Reading) between its junction with Richfield Avenue and a point approximately 185 metres north, is closed (The alternative pedestrian route is via Thames Side Promenade and then along Richfield Avenue and vice versa).
3. That between 10.30p.m. and 1.00a.m. each night, from 10.30p.m. on Friday 28 August 2026 to 1.00a.m. on Monday 31 August 2026, Richfield Avenue between its junctions with Cardiff Road and Tessa Road will be closed to all vehicles.
4. That between 10.30p.m. and 1.00a.m. each night, from 10.30p.m. on Friday 28 August 2026 to 1.00a.m. on Monday 31 August 2026, the following lengths of road will be closed to all vehicles except for authorised access:
4.1. Cow Lane, in a northbound direction, between its junction with Portman Road and its junction with Cardiff Road.
4.2. Richfield Avenue, from its junction with Caversham Road to its junction with Tessa Road.
4.3. Tessa Road, from its junction with Richfield Avenue to its junction with Cremyll Road.
5. That between 10.30p.m. and 1.00a.m. each night, from 10.30p.m. on Friday 28 August 2026 to 1.00a.m. on Monday 31 August 2026, the following vehicle prohibitions will be suspended to allow authorised access:
5.1. Cardiff Road approximately 50 metres west of its junction with Milford Road.
5.2. Milford Road approximately 12 metres north of its junction with Cardiff Road.
6. That between 8.00p.m. and 5.00a.m. each night, from 8.00p.m. on Friday 28 August 2026 to 5.00a.m. on Monday 31 August 2026, a no waiting and no loading restriction will be implemented on both sides of Cardiff Road from its junction with Cow Lane to a point approximately 55 metres west of its junction with Milford Road.
7. That from 7.00a.m. to 3.00p.m. on Monday 31 August 2026, Cow Lane will be closed in a northbound direction, between Portman/Reservoir Road roundabout and its junction with Cardiff Road, except for access to SafeStore.
8. That from 7.00a.m. on Wednesday 26 August 2026 until 4.00p.m. on Monday 31 August 2026, Thames Side Promenade will be closed except for authorised access.
9. That from 10.00a.m. on Wednesday 26 August 2026 to 4.00p.m. on Monday 31 August 2026 The Warren will be closed for vehicular traffic for its entire length except for authorised access.
10. That from 9.00a.m. on Thursday 27 August 2026 to 3.00p.m. on Monday 31 August 2026, Waterman Place will be closed for vehicular traffic for its entire length except for authorised access.
11. To introduce a No Waiting At Any Time/No Loading Or Unloading At Any Time parking restriction from 9.00a.m. on Tuesday 25 August 2026 until 5.00p.m. on Monday 31 August 2026 on the following lengths of road:
11.1. North and South sides of Richfield Avenue for its entire length;
11.2. Thames Side Promenade;
11.3. East and west sides of Little Johns Lane from its junction with Portman Road to its northern end;
11.4. East and west sides of Cow Lane, between Portman Road and Cardiff Road;
11.5. North and south sides of Cardiff Road from its junction with Richfield Avenue to a point 130 metres east from that junction;
11.6. East side of Tessa Road from its junction with Richfield Avenue for its entire length;
11.7. South sides of Cremyll Road, for its entire length;
11.8. North side of Cremyll Road, from its junction with Tessa Road to a point approximately 53 metres east of that point
North side of Cremyll Road, from a point approximately 85 metres east of its junction with Tessa Road to a point approximately 103 metres east of that point
North side of Cremyll Road, from a point approximately 135 metres east of its junction with Tessa Road to its junction with Milford Road
11.9. East and west sides of Little John's Lane from its junction with Portman Road to its junction with Loverock Road
11.10. Wigmore Lane, both sides, from its junction with Oxford Road to Portman Road and from Portman Road to Loverock Road.
11.11. East and West side of Bridge Street, Caversham (Caversham Bridge) for its entire length
11.12. North and South side of Portman Road from its junction with Cow Land to its junction with Ashmere Terrace
11.13. Cardiff Road, in the central area of carriageway immediately to the east and west side of the vehicle prohibition, located approximately 55 metres west of the junction with Milford Road
11.14. Milford Road, in the central area of carriageway immediately to the north and south side of the vehicular prohibition, location approximately 12 metres north of the junction with Cardiff Road
12. To introduce a No Waiting At Any Time/No Loading Or Unloading At Any Time parking restriction from 6.00p.m. on Friday 28 August 2026 until 8.00p.m. on Monday 31 August 2026 on the north-east side of Caversham Road from its junction with Waterman Place to a point 30 metres north-west of its junction with Thames Avenue.
13. To introduce a No Waiting At Any Time/No Loading Or Unloading At Any Time parking restriction from 11.30p.m. on Sunday 30 August 2026 until 5.00p.m. on Monday 31 August 2026 on the following lengths of roads:
13.1. Church Road, South side, from a point 28 metres west of its junction with Bridge Street to a point 23 metres west of that point; and
13.2. Church Road, North Side, from a point 14 metres east of its junction with St Anne's Road to a point 38 metres east of that point
14. To introduce a No Waiting At Any Time parking restriction from 12 noon on Tuesday 25 August 2026 until 5.00p.m. on Monday 31 August 2026 on the following lengths of road:
14.1 Both sides of Milford Road from its northern end to a point 10 metres north of its junction with Meadow Road.
16. To introduce No Waiting At Any Time/No Loading Or Unloading At Any Time except private hire vehicles from 12 noon on Tuesday 25 August 2026 until 5.00p.m. on Monday 31 August 2026 on the following lengths of road;
16.1. Cremyll Road north side from a point approximately 53 metres east of its junction with Tessa Road to a point approximately 32 metres east of that point.
16.2. Cremyll Road north side from a point approximately 103 metres east of its junction with Tessa Road to a point approximately 32 metres east of that point.
Should it be necessary, the footpath restrictions shall remain in force for a maximum duration of 6 months, and the road restrictions will remain in force for a maximum of 18 months.
