What is happening?
THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD (SOUTH SHORE ROAD CAR PARK - FOOTPATH CLOSURE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Borough Council of Gateshead proposes to make an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the footpath west of South Shore Road Car Park for its entire length.
The Order is required for public safety to facilitate refurbishment works being undertaken to The Kittiwake Tower. The Order will come into force on 01 September 2026, and the maximum duration of the Order will be 6 months.
During the works all pedestrians (except operatives associated with the works and emergency service operatives on duty) will be prohibited from proceeding along the above footpath until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs.
During the works there will be a signed diversion in place.
