Workington - Temporary Road Closures Due To Carriageway Resurfacing Works
What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (A596 WORKINGTON) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road:
- A596 Workington Bridge and Hall Brow, Workington, from its junction with Calva Brow, extending in an overall southerly direction for approx. 250m.
Duration: From 12 September 2026 for approx. 2 days (Ref: TTROC/19497)
- A596 Hall Brow, Workington, from its junction with the A66, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 200m.
Duration: From 19 September 2026 for approx. 2 days (Ref: TTROC/19468)
Alternative Route during the above restrictions: via the unrestricted sections of the A596, A597 through Workington and High Harrington and A595 Lillyhall.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 12 September 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
