What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Public Rights of Way Footpath No.5 Shincliffe Parish (Whitwell Bank Footbridge) Shincliffe) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2026

The Council on 5/8/2026 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of footpath a 86 metres length of Footpath No.5 Shincliffe Parish, from its junction with Shincliffe Lane at southern side of closure in a northerly direction to the junctions of footpath No.90 Shincliffe Parish to enable bridge repair/renewal works to be undertaken Throughout the period of closure, a diversion will be available to pedestrian traffic from south side of the closure on Shincliffe Lane heading in westerly direction until you reach the junction of public footpath 6 Shincliffe parish heading north and continuing on public footpath 89 Shincliffe parish until you reach the junction of public footpath 90, heading eastwards until you reach the junction of public footpath 90 Shincliffe parish and vice versa. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The works commenced under urgent 21-day Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice on 16/7/2026 and now require extending from 6/8/2026 for approximately 6 months. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
