Durham - Off-Street Parking Places Order at The Light
What is happening?
THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF DURHAM (THE LIGHT, DURHAM) (OFF-STREET PARKING PLACES) ORDER 2026
On 7/8/2026 the Council made an Order under Sections 32,33,34,35, 35A, 35B, 35C and 38 & Part IV of Sch. 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”), as amended, and comes into operation on 4/7/2024. The effect of the Order is to bring into force off street car parking at The Light, Durham, for motor cars, motorcycles, electric vehicle charging bays, disabled badge holders only, staff and visitor permit parking. Also the introduction of a cashless parking Service, charges will apply during the hours of 8am-8pm all days being £1per hour. Full details are contained in the sealed Order, which may be inspected at Durham Clayport Library during normal opening hours and via the council’s website. Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by “the Act”, as amended, or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any regulation made under it has not been complied with may, within six weeks from 7/8/2026, apply to make an application for that purpose to the High Court.
