THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF DURHAM (DURHAM CITY AND SURROUNDING AREA, MANDATORY CYCLE LANE) ORDER 2026
The Council on 7/8/2026 made an Order under Sections 84 and 87 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 “the Act”), as amended, the effect of which comes into operation on 6/8/2026 which will regulate the following restrictions, which were introduced during the covid pandemic on Pelaw Leazes Lane, Durham City.
20 mph speed limit - Pelaw Leazes Lane, in its entirety, from its junctions with A690 from Leazes Road/School of Education entrance to its junctions with Public Footpath 78 Durham City riverside footpath and A690 Leazes Road.
Mandatory Cycle Lane Pelaw Leazes Lane
1. a 27 metre length from 7 metres south west of the centre line junction to the entrance to Carter House in a south westerly direction.
2. a 40 metre length of the western leg that extends westerly from 6 metres west of the divergence of the western and eastern legs of Leazes Road.
A copy of the Order and supporting documents can be seen via the Council website, and at Durham Clayport Library during normal opening hours. Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by “the Act”, as amended, or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any regulation made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within 6 weeks from 7/8/2026
