CENTRAL BEDFORDSHIRE COUNCIL

(LEIGHTON BUZZARD: PART OF FOOTPATH NO. 68)

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF THROUGH TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Order made by Central Bedfordshire

Council on the 13 February 2026 the effect of which will be to prohibit any person proceeding on foot along the length of Footpath No. 68, Leighton Buzzard which extends from Ordnance Survey Grid Reference (OS GR) SP 9103 2494 to OS GR SP 9110 2495 has been continued in force with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport until 20 February 2027.

This temporary closure is required due to ongoing bridge works. The closure is expected to continue from 21 August 2026 for a further six months.

The alternative route for footpath users while the closure is in operation extends from Ordnance Survey Grid Reference (OS GR) SP 9103 2494 to OS GR SP 9104 2498 then continues to OS GR SP 9104 2498 then continues to OS GR SP 9104 2498 then continues to OS GR SP 9107 2497 then continues to OS GR SP 9107 2498 then continues to OS GR SP 9111 2497 then continues to OS GR SP 9110 2495. The alternative route is across a railway footbridge.

Further details, including a map, can also be found on the Council’s website at: https://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/info/82/countryside/431/rights_of_way/2 The Order will continue in force until 20 February 2027 or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier. If the works are not completed within six months the Order may be extended for a longer period with the consent of the Secretary of State for Transport.
