What is happening?

THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL OF STOCKPORT (CARRINGTON ROAD, PORTWOOD) (TEMPORARY ONE-WAY TRAFFIC)(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF RIGHT TURN) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF LEFT TURN) NOTICE 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport proposes to make an Order not less than 7 days from the date of this Notice under Section14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the effect of which will be to introduce Temporary One-Way Traffic at Carrington Road, Portwood, one-way eastbound from approximately 82 metres east of the junction with Charlotte Street to the junction of Newbridge Lane.

Temporary Prohibition of a Right Turn from Werneth Street, Portwood, on to Carrington Road, and from Newbridge Lane, Portwood on to Carrington Road. Temporary Prohibition of a Left Turn from Newbridge Lane, Portwood on to Carrington Road, whilst traffic signs to that effect are in place on or near the said roads.

This Order is necessary to allow highway improvement and associated works to take place. It is estimated these works will last 4 weeks. A diversion will be provided via New Bridge Lane, St Marys Way and Carrington Road. This Notice does not apply to pedestrians.

This Order is to come into operation on 1 September 2026 and will have effect for eighteen months, provided that if all necessary works are completed within a shorter period this Order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period. Ref: JO/18234135/13 Dated: 12 August 2026.
