THE WOLVERHAMPTON CITY COUNCIL
(BIRMINGHAM ROAD/THOMPSON AVENUE/WARSTONES ROAD/
HENWOOD ROAD/WELLINGTON ROAD)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Wolverhampton City Council propose to make an
Order under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as substituted by the
Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, prohibiting vehicles from proceeding on
the following stretches of road:

· Birmingham Road closed in both directions between its junction with Derry Street and
its junction with Thompson Avenue. Thompson Avenue closed in both directions
between its junction with Birmingham Road and its junction with Dixon Street.
Vehicular Diversion Routes: Northbound - Birmingham New Road, Black Country
Route, Oxford Street, Lichfield Street, Wellington Road, Bilston Road and Ring Road.
Southbound – Grove Street, Dudley Road, Ring Road, Bilston Road, Wellington Road,
Lichfield Street, Oxford Street, Black Country Route and Birmingham New Road. It is
anticipated that the closure will operate on 20th August 2026 and 21st August 2026,
27th August 2026 and 28th August 2026 and 3rd September 2026 and 4th September
2026, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:00 only.

· Warstones Road closed in both directions between its junction with Coalway Road and
its junction with Stourbridge Road. Vehicular Diversion Route: Stourbridge Road,
Penn Road, Coalway Road and vice versa. It is anticipated that the closure will operate
for one day between 20th August 2026 and 28th August 2026, and again between
27th August 2026 and 4th September 2026, weekdays between the hours of 09:30 and
15:00 only.

· Henwood Road closed its entire length in both directions. Vehicular Diversion Route:
Bridgnorth Road, Compton Road West, Compton Road, Chapel Ash, Ring Road,
Chapel Ash, Tettenhall Road and vice versa. It is anticipated that the closure will
operate on 20th August 2026 and 21st August 2026, 27th August 2026 and 28th August
2026 and 3rd September 2026 and 4th September 2026, between the hours of 09:30
and 15:00 only.

· Wellington Road closed in both directions from its junction with Stowheath Lane to its
junction with Prouds Lane. Vehicular Diversion Route: Southbound - Bilston Road,
Ring Road, Birmingham Road, Thompson Avenue, Birmingham New Road, Black
Country Route, Oxford Street and Lichfield Street. Northbound – Lichfield Street,
Oxford Street, Black Country Route, Birmingham New Road, Thompson Avenue,
Birmingham Road, Grove Street, Dudley Road, Ring Road and Bilston Road. It is
anticipated that the closure will operate Sundays only from 23rd August 2026 until
13th September 2026.

The Order may operate for a maximum period of eighteen months, but it is anticipated that
the works will be undertaken between the dates and times detailed above, with only one
closure in operation at any one time.

The Order is required to facilitate carriageway remedial works by City of Wolverhampton
Council.
