What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (B5299 ELLERBECK BRIDGE, C2050 LESSONHALL, WIGTON AND U2063 POW, NEAR THURSBY) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable bridge repair works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road:

  1. B5299 Ellerbeck Bridge, near Caldbeck, from a point approx. 200m southeast of its junction with the C2004, extending in a south easterly direction for approx. 40m.

    Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the B5299, A595 and B5305.

    Duration: From 24 August 2026 for approx. 10 days (Ref: TTROC/19242)

  2. C2050 Lessonhall, near Wigton, from a point approx. 1km northwest of its junction with the C2051, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 270m.

    Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the C2050, B5302 and B5307 Abbeytown.

    Duration: From 1 September 2026 for approx. 30 days (Ref: TTROC/18357)

  3. U2063 Pow, near Thursby from a point approx. 240m south of its junction with the U2057, extending in an overall southerly direction for approx. 80m.

    Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the U2063, U2057, Woodhouses, U1130 and A596.

    Duration: From 7 September 2026 for approx. 1 days, between 0800 and 1600

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 24 August 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
