What is happening?

THE METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL OF STOCKPORT (SYDNEY STREET, OFFERTON) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF DRVING) (TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF ONE-WAY SYSTEM) NOTICE 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Metropolitan Borough Council of Stockport proposes to make an Order not less than 7 days from the date of this Notice under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the effect of which will be to introduce a Temporary Prohibition of Driving at Sydney Street, Offerton, at the junction of Offerton Lane and for approximately 35 metres in a southerly direction between the hours of 09:00am to 17:00pm Monday to Friday. There will also be an additional Temporary Suspension of the One-Way System for residents' access, whilst traffic signs to that effect are in place on or near the said roads. It is anticipated that the duration of the works will be 31 days. This Notice is issued to enable emergency sewer repair works to take place. 

A diversion will be provided via Offerton Lane and Hempshaw Lane. This Notice does not apply to any vehicle on any occasion when it is being used for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes. This Notice also does not apply to pedestrians or pedal cycles, and local access will be maintained. This Order is to come into operation on 24 August 2026 and will have effect for eighteen months, provided that if all necessary works are completed within a shorter period this Order shall cease to have effect at the end of that shorter period.
