Croydon - Temporary Traffic Restrictions due to Utility, Tram and Highway Works

Official Notice

1. The Order will come into operation on 22 August 2026, and it is anticipated that works will be carried out over two weekends (22 and 23, and 29 and 30 August 2026). However, the Order will remain in force for 18 months to be reintroduced should further work be required.

2. The restrictions shall not apply in respect of:

(a) a vehicle being used for fire brigade, ambulance, or police purposes, or the purposes of a statutory undertaker in an emergency, such as the loss of supplies of gas, electricity or water to premises in the area, which necessitates the bringing of vehicles into a section of road to which the order applies.

(b) anything done with the permission of a police constable in uniform or a Civil Enforcement Officer.

(c) any vehicle or person involved in carrying out the specified works.

BRIGHTON ROAD, PURLEY

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC

1. Croydon Council HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that to facilitate cable installation work on behalf of UKPN, they intend to make an Order, the effect of which would be to temporarily prohibit traffic movements in Brighton Road, Purley.

2. During the work:

(a) The cycle lane on the south-east (odd-numbered) side of Brighton Road will be closed opposite Badgers Mount, Brighton Road.

(b) The footway on the south-east (odd-numbered) side of Brighton Road will be closed opposite Badgers Mount, Brighton Road.

3. Whilst the cycle lane closure remains in force cyclists will be diverted into the main carriageway. Pedestrians affected by the footway closure will be diverted via a walkway in the cycle lane.

4. The Order will come into operation on 25 August 2026, and it is anticipated that the work will be completed on 27 August 2026. However, the Order will remain in force for 18 months to be reintroduced should further work be required. The prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such an extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

5. The restrictions shall not apply in respect of:

(a) any vehicle or person involved in conducting the said work.

(b) a vehicle being used for fire brigade, ambulance, or police purposes, or the purposes of a statutory undertaker in an emergency, such as the loss of supplies of gas, electricity or water to premises in the area, which necessitates the bringing of vehicles into a section of road to which the order applies.

(c) anything done with the permission of a police constable in uniform or a Civil Enforcement Officer.

TEMPORARY RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC

1. Croydon Council HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that to facilitate tram network maintenance works, they intend to make an Order the effect of which would be to temporarily restrict traffic on Church Street, Croydon.

2. Whilst the said works are taking place Church Street will be closed between its junctions with Surrey Street and Drummond Road.

3. During the works the diversion route for vehicular traffic will be via Keeley Road and Drummond Road.

4. The Order will come into operation on 24 August 2026, and it is anticipated that the works will be completed within one day. However, the Order will remain in force for 18 months to be reintroduced should further work be required.

5. The restriction shall not apply in respect of:

(a) any vehicle involved in carrying out the said work.

(b) a vehicle being used for fire brigade, ambulance, or police purposes, or the purposes of a statutory undertaker in an emergency, such as the loss of supplies of gas, electricity or water to premises in the area, which necessitates the bringing of vehicles into a section of road to which the order applies.

TEMPORARY RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC

2. Whilst the said works are taking place George Street will be closed between its junctions with Frith Road and Wellesley Road.

3. During the works the diversion route for vehicular traffic will be via Wellesley Road, Bedford Park, Sydenham Road, Wellesley Road, Park Lane, Katherine Street and St George’s Walk.

4. The Order will come into operation on 24 August 2026, and it is anticipated that the works will be completed within one day. However, the Order will remain in force for 18 months to be reintroduced should further work be required.

5. The restriction shall not apply in respect of:

(a) any vehicle involved in carrying out the said work.

SECTION 14, AS AMENDED

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF VEHICULAR OR PEDESTRIAN ACCESS

AND TEMPORARY

PARKING RESTRICTIONS

1. Croydon Council, HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that to facilitate essential highway maintenance works that may take place within the London Borough of Croydon, they intend to amend “The Croydon (Highways Maintenance Works) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order) 2026” to include the lengths of streets listed in the Schedule to this notice, and to allow the following measures to be introduced in those streets/lengths of streets, as required, for which Croydon Council is the highway authority:

(a) temporarily introduce one-way traffic for the duration of the works in that length of street.

(b) temporarily close to vehicular traffic that length of street.

(c) temporarily close any adjoining streets to vehicular traffic where this is considered necessary to facilitate the work in progress.

(d) temporarily introduce banned turns, footway closures or waiting and loading restrictions at any time should this be required and

(e) temporarily suspend bus lanes/stops, cycle lanes, parking bays or any other traffic restriction as required where this is considered necessary to facilitate the work in progress.

2. Wherever the work happens to be in progress, no person may:

(a) cause or permit any vehicle to proceed in a direction other than that indicated by a traffic sign, or

(b) cause or permit any vehicle to proceed in any street or length of street which may at the time be subject to a road closure until the completion of the work allows.

(c) proceed along any footway which may at the time be subject to a closure until the completion of the work allows.

3. Whilst the provisions of the amended Order remain in force, waiting or loading by vehicles would be prohibited at any time in those streets or lengths of streets specified where work is in progress. Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any restriction on waiting imposed by this Order may be removed under the provisions of the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986.

4. All works requiring a road closure will be advertised complete with any diversion route on our website at the address below. Planned closures and diversion routes are also shown in the Schedule to this Notice.

Frontages affected by the above restrictions will receive notification letters approximately two weeks before any work commences.

6. The amended Order will come into operation on the 20 August 2026 and will remain in force until 25 November 2027, 18 months from the operational date of the original Order. (Note: The provisions of the Order will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016. (Access for frontagers would be maintained whilst the work proceeds).
