TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all vehicular, horse and cycle traffic from those sections of carriageway list in Schedule 1 and to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from the section of road listed in Schedule 2. The Order is required to facilitate gas main replacement works. The order will come into force on 21st September 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. However, the works are expected to be completed within two months. The closures will be in effect until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An exemption is to be provided for the emergency services.
Schedule 1: Castellian Road – from its junction with Dene Road for a distance of 13 metres in an easterly direction; Joyce Terrace – from its junction with Grange Road for a distance of 18 metres in a northerly direction; West View – from its junction with Grange Road for a distance of 15 metres in a north-westerly direction; Oswald Terrace West – from its junction with Fairleigh Road to its junction with Sheppard Terrace; Dene Road – from its junction with Aydon Road to its junction with the eastern access / egress to Kangaroo Self Storage. Schedule 2: Walworth Road – from a point 1.60 metres south of the extended southern building line of 1 Walworth Road to its junction with Fairleigh Road
