What is happening?

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF BARNCROFT WAY, ST ALBANS) ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Barncroft Way, St Albans from its junction with Cell Barnes Lane north eastwards, north westwards and south westwards for its entire length ("the Road").
There is no alternative route available, but access will be maintained wherever possible throughout the duration of the works.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
The Order will come into effect from 24 August 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 2 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(Temporary Closing Of Sandridgebury Lane, St Albans) Order No.2 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Sandridgebury Lane, St Albans from a point 498m north east of its junction with Valley Road north eastwards for a distance of approximately 400m ("the Road"), except for access.
An alternative route will be via Sandridgebury Lane, A1081 Harpenden Road, Beech Road, B651 (St Albans Road/High Street) and Sandridgebury Lane.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
The Order will come into effect from 24 August 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 1 day to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads ("the Roads"), except for access:-
1. that length of Highfield Park Drive, St Albans from its junction with the A1081 London Road roundabout north eastwards to its junction with the Nightingale Lane roundabout, a distance of approximately 460m.
An alternative route will be via A1081 London Road, Drakes Drive, Camp Road, Hill End Lane, Highfield Lane and Highfield Park Lane.
2. that length of Hill End Lane/Nightingale Lane, St Albans from its junction with Frobisher Road south westwards, south eastwards, north eastwards and south eastwards to its junction with the Highfield Park Drive roundabout, a distance of approximately 466m.
An alternative route will be via Highfield Park Drive, Highfield Lane and Hill End Lane.
3. that length of Oaklands Lane, Smallford from its junction with A1057 Hatfield Road north westwards and south westwards to its junction with Coopers Green Lane, a distance of approximately 1502m.
An alternative route will be via A1057 Hatfield Road, A1081 St Peters Street, B651 Stonecross and Sandpit Lane.
4. that length of Primrose Gardens, Bushey from its junction with School Lane north eastwards for its entire length.
There is no alternative route available, but access will be maintained wherever possible throughout the duration of the works.
5. that length of School Lane, Bushey from its junction with A411 Sparrows Herne south eastwards and south westwards to its junction with Merry Hill Road, a distance of approximately 496m.
An alternative route will be via A411 Sparrows Herne and Merry Hill Road.
6. that length of Tyttenhanger Green, St Albans from its junction with Highfield Lane north eastwards to its junction with Barley Mow Lane, a distance of approximately 38m.
An alternative route will be via Highfield Lane, Hill End Lane, Colney Heath Lane and Barley Mow Lane.
7. that length of Westfield Road, Harpenden from its junction with B653 Lower Luton Road south westwards to its junction with Coldharbour Lane, a distance of approximately 91m.
An alternative route will be via B653 Lower Luton Road, B652 Station Road, Coldharbour Lane and Westfield Road.
The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.
The Order will come into effect from 24 August 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 3 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of New Road, Radlett from its junction with Battlers Green Drive south eastwards for a distance of approximately 32m ("the Road").
An alternative route will be via New Road, B462 Watford Road, Park Road, A5183 Watling Street, Aldenham Avenue, Loom Lane and New Road.
The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road.
The Order will come into effect from 11 August 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 3 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(Temporary Traffic Management Measures On Various Roads In St Albans) Order No.2 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be :-
1. To prohibit all vehicular traffic from being driven at a speed exceeding 50mph and 30mph on the following lengths of roads ("the Roads"), when signs are in place:-
a) the A414 Watling Street roundabout, St Albans from its junction with A405 North Orbital Road clockwise for its entire length.
b) that length of A405 North Orbital Road, St Albans from its junction with the Tippendell Lane roundabout north eastwards to its junction with the A414 Watling Street roundabout, a distance of approximately 200m.
c) that length of A414 North Orbital Road, St Albans from its junction with the A414 Watling Street roundabout south eastwards, north eastwards, south eastwards and north eastwards to its junction with the A414 London Colney roundabout, a distance of approximately 3000m.
d) that length of A5183 Watling Street, St Albans from its junction with the A414 Watling Street roundabout north westwards for a distance of approximately 350m.
e) that length of A5183 Watling Street, St Albans from its junction with the A414 Watling Street roundabout south westwards for a distance of approximately 150m.
The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.
The Order will come into effect from 9 August 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 18 months to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads ("the Roads"), except for access:-
1. that length of B556 Harper Lane, Shenley from its junction with the B5378 Shenley Lane/B556 Bell Lane roundabout south westwards to its junction with A5183 Watling Street, a distance of approximately 2587m.
An alternative route will be via B556 Bell Lane, A1081 (Bell Link Overbridge/London Colney Bypass), A414 North Orbital Road and A5183 (Watling Street/Park Street/Frogmore/Radlett Road/Watling Street).
2. that length of Lye Lane, Bricket Wood from its junction with Station Road south westwards and north westwards to its junction with West Riding, a distance of approximately 432m.
An alternative route will be via Station Road, Mount Pleasant Lane and West Riding.
3. that length of Sandringham Crescent, St Albans from its junction with Chiltern Road north eastwards, south eastwards, north eastwards and south eastwards to its junction with House Lane, a distance of approximately 1168m.
An alternative route will be via Chiltern Road, The Ridgeway, Sherwood Avenue, Marshalswick Lane, Sandpit Lane and House Lane.
The Order is needed because works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.
The Order will come into effect from 10 August 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 4 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Roads.

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from using the following lengths of roads ("the Roads"), except for access:-
1. that length of A5183 Holywell Hill, St Albans from its junction with A1081 London Road south westwards for a distance of approximately 15m.
An alternative route will be via A1081 London Road, A414 North Orbital Road and A5183 (Watling Street/St Stephens Hill/Holywell Hill).
2. that length of A1081 Chequer Street, St Albans from its junction with A5183 High Street north eastwards for a distance of approximately 15m.
An alternative route will be via A5183 (High Street/Verulam Road/Folly Lane), A4147 (Folly Lane/St Catherine Street) and A1081 (St Peters Street/Chequer Street).
3. that length of A1081 London Road, St Albans from its junction with A1081 Chequer Street south eastwards for a distance of approximately 15m.
An alternative route will be via A1081 (Chequer Street/St Peters Street), A1057 (Hatfield Road/St Albans Road West), A1001 Comet Way, A414 North Orbital Road and A1081 London Road.
4. that length of A5183 High Street, St Albans from its junction with A1081 Chequer Street north westwards for a distance of approximately 15m.
An alternative route will be via A1081 (Chequer Street/St Peters Street), A4147 (Catherine Street/Folly Lane) and A5183 (Folly Lane/Verulam Road/High Street).
The Order is needed because excavation works are proposed to be executed on or near the Roads.
The Order will come into effect from 13 August 2026 and will be valid for a period of 18 months. The works are scheduled to take 2 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road.

(Temporary Closing Of The Footpath Situated On The South Side Of Nos.18-24 Ripon Way, St Albans) Order 2026
NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council has made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, to prohibit all pedestrians from using the footpath situated on the south side of Nos.18-24 Ripon Way, St Albans from a point in line with the western boundary of No.22 Ripon Way south eastwards for a distance of approximately 48m ("the Footpath").
An alternative route will be via the footpath situated on the south side of Nos.18-24 Ripon Way, the footway situated on the east and south east sides of Cheriton Close, the footway situated on the north side of Villiers Crescent, the footway situated on the west side of Stanton Close and the footpath situated on the east side of No.4 and No.5 Stanton Close.
The Order is needed because duct laying works are proposed to be executed on or near the Footpath.
The Order will come into effect from 11 August 2026 and will be valid for a period of 6 months. The works are scheduled to take 3 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Footpath.
