ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTION 16A(2)(a)

THE A35 TRUNK ROAD (BRIDPORT BYPASS, DORSET)

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (a) intends to make an Order on the A35 trunk road at Bridport in the County of Dorset under section 16A(2)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose of facilitating the holding of a relevant event.

The special event is expected to take place on Sunday 23 August 2026 between 21.00 and 22.30.

The effect of the Order would be to authorise the closure of:

(i) the A35 Bridport Bypass from the junction with Eype Down Road to East Road Roundabout;

(ii) the layby adjacent to the A35 Bridport Bypass.

This measure would be in the interests of road safety during the holding of the Bridport Carnival Torchlight Procession.

During the event, traffic would be diverted via junctions of the A35 and local roads.

The road closure and layby closure would be clearly indicated by traffic signs during the event.

The Order would come into force on 21 August 2026 and have a maximum duration of one month.
