SANDWELL METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Borough Council of Sandwell (Oxford Road, Smethwick) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding via Oxford Road from its junction with Melbourne Road for a distance of 120 metres. Traffic will be diverted via Melbourne Road, Middlemore Road & vice versa. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to commence and be completed by 14/08/2026 (9am-3pm only). Traffic will be diverted via Tividale Road, New Birmingham Road, Burnt Tree & vice versa. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to commence and be completed by 16/08/2026 (9:30am-3:30pm only). Traffic will be diverted via Hurst Road, William Road, Harold Road, The Oval, Paviliion Avenue & vice versa. Harvest Road – at the point of its junction with Broadmoor Avenue. Traffic will be diverted via Hurst Road & vice versa. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to commence and be completed by 18/08/2026 (9:30am3:30pm only). Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Upper Church Lane, Powis Avenue, Glebefields Road & vice versa. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to commence and be completed by 20/08/2026 (9:30am-3:30pm). The Borough Council of Sandwell (Downing Street, Smethwick) (Temporary One-Way Road Closure) Order 2026 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Downing Street, which will be closed one-way in a south-westerly direction between the junctions of Cornwall Road (southern side) & Bridge Street North. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Cornwall Road, Rabone Lane, Rolfe Street & Bridge Street North. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 26/08/2026, effective from 20/08/2026 (24hr). Purpose – to facilitate access for electrical service works by National Grid Electricity Distribution.
The Borough Council of Sandwell (Coneygree Road, Dudley Port, Tipton) (Temporary Road and Footway Closures) Order 2026 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles and pedestrians (eastern footway) from proceeding along Coneygree Road from the dividing line of property No’s 33a/34 to the dividing line of property No’s 35b/35c. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Dudley Port, Sedgley Road East and vice versa. Local pedestrian diversion routes will be signed at safe locations within the road closure area. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 25/08/2026, effective from 17/08/2026. The Borough Council of Sandwell (Powke Lane – Dudley Canal Bridge, Rowley Regis/Cradley Heath) (Temporary Footpath Closures) Order 2026 intends to temporarily prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the footpath from the side of 55 Powke Lane, Rowley Regis to the Dudley Canal Bridge, Cradley Heath (phased closures as detailed below):
Phase 1 (17th - 21st August 2026)
Closed from the side of 36 Mission Close to the Dudley Canal Bridge. A pedestrian diversion route will be signed via The springs, Owens Way, Waterfall Lane, Dudley Canal Tow Path & vice versa.
Phase 2 (24th August - 4th September 2026)
Closed from the side of 16 The Mount to the side of 36 Mission Close. A local pedestrian diversion route will be signed.
Phase 3 (24th August - 28th August 2026)
Closed between 68/70 Higgsfield Crescent. A pedestrian diversion route will be signed via Higgsfield Crescent, Owens Way, Mission Close, The Mount & vice versa.
Phase 4 (31st August - 11th September 2026
Closed at the side of 21 The Mount. A local pedestrian diversion route will be signed.
Phase 5 (14th September - 18th September 2026)
Closed at the side of 21 The Mount. A local pedstrian diversion route will be signed.
Phase 6 (21st September - 2nd October 2026)
Closed the side of 21 The Mount to the rear of 68 Higgsfield Crescent. A pedestrian diversion route will be signed via The Mount, Mission Close, Owens Way, Higgsfield Crescent & vice versa.
Phase 7 (5th - 9th October 2026)
Closed from the side of 55 Powke lane to the rear of 70 Higgsfield Crescent. A pedestrian diversion route will be signed via Powke lane, Terrace Street, Higgsfield Crescent & vice versa.
The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 09/10/2026, effective from 17/08/2026 (24hr). Purpose – to facilitate access for public footpath improvement work by RW Services Ltd on behalf of Sandwell MBC. The Borough Council of Sandwell (Dugdale Street, Smethwick) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Dugdale Street in a northerly direction from its junction with Dudley Road to 45m from the junction of Moillett Street. Traffic will be diverted via Dudley Road, Winson Street, Abberley Street & vice versa. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to commence and be completed by 17/08/2026 (8am-4pm). Purpose – to facilitate the repair/replacement of a defective frame and cover. The Borough Council of Sandwell (Holyhead Road, Wednesbury) (Temporary Road Closure & Cycle Lane Closure) Order 2026 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Holyhead Road, which will be closed from its junction with Patent Shaft Roundabout for approximately 50 metres. A cycle lane closure will also be in place from its junction with Patent Shaft Roundabout to its junction with Holyhead Road. Access t o any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Black Country New Road, Dudley Street & vice versa. T he maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 21/08/2026, effective from 17/08/2026 (24hrs). The Borough Council of Sandwell (Dudley Port, Tipton) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026 intends to temporarily prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Dudley Port, which will be closed from south of its junction with Station Drive for approximately 40 metres. Access to any affected frontages will be maintained, but only when safety permits. Traffic will be diverted via Sedgley Road East, Park Lane West, Owen Street, Alexandra Road, Horseley Road, New Road & vice versa. The maximum duration is 18 months, but the work is expected to be completed by 18/08/2026, effective from 17/08/2026 (7pm-6am).
