The Oldham Borough Council on 9 February 2026 made a Temporary Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which is to prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along that part of Footpath 126 Oldham from Sheepfoot Lane Oldham near no. 46 Sheepfoot Lane to its junction with Footpath 184 Oldham.

The Order was made to allow United Utilities wastewater pipeline improvements and was due to expire on 8 August 2026.On 17 July 2026 the Secretary of State for Transport approved the continuing in force of the Order and granted an extension of the Order until 9 June 2027 or until the completion of the works, whichever is the earlier.
The alternative route is Sheepfoot Lane and Footpath 184 Oldham.
