What is happening?
M20 MOTORWAY – JUNCTION 12
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M20 Motorway in the County of Kent, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be to:-
1) authorise -
a) the phased overnight closure of the slip roads leading to both carriageways of the M20 at Junction 12 (A20/B2064); and
b) the 24-hour closure of the footway adjacent to the northbound carriageway of Cheriton Approach and the western overbridge at M20 Junction 12, between the crossing point at junction between Cheriton High Street and Cheriton Approach and the crossing point at the top of the eastbound off-slip at M20 Junction 12;
2) impose a 24-hour 50 mph speed restriction on the slips described in 1) a) above when they are not closed.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake barrier replacement and all associated works.
It is expected that work would last for approximately 8 weeks starting on or after Tuesday 1st September 2026.
The Order would come into force on 30th August 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when all works are complete. Overnight closures would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 hours.
Please check National Highways website for details. Traffic affected by the closures in 1.a) above would be diverted to the nearest available junction (11(A20) or 13(A20/A2034) as appropriate and return. Pedestrians affected by the footway closure will be directed to walk round the roundabout via the footway adjacent to the southbound carriageway of Cheriton Approach and the eastern overbridge.
The temporary closures, speed limits, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
