A12 Trunk Road - Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic For Works

What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1)(A) AND (7) AND PARAGRAPH 27(1) OF SCHEDULE 9 THE A12 TRUNK ROAD (JUNCTION 19 BOREHAM INTERCHANGE TO JUNCTION 25 MARKS TEY INTERCHANGE, ESSEX) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 202_ 

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited(a) intends to make an Order on the A12 Trunk Road in Essex to enable carriageway improvement works including resurfacing, road markings, joint repairs and sign replacement works to be carried out in safety. 

The works would take place over approximately 3 months (9pm to 5am), starting on, or after, Tuesday 1 September 2026.

The restrictions and prohibitions would be applied only to the extent that is necessary for particular works to be undertaken and would only apply during such times and to such extent as shall be indicated by traffic signs. 

The effect of the Order would be —

1. To impose, for 24 hours daily, a speed restriction of 50 miles per hour on the A12 - • northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 19 Boreham Interchange to the entry slip road at Junction 25 Marks Tey Interchange, • southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 25 Marks Tey Interchange to the entry slip road at Junction 19 Boreham Interchange, and • all slip roads leading to or from the above lengths of carriageway. 

2. To close, for 24 hours daily, all lay-bys adjacent to the lengths of carriageway described in 1 above. 

3. To close for full weekends (9pm Friday - 5am Monday), starting on or after Friday 4 September, varying lengths of carriageway and associated slip roads described in 1 above. 4. To close, overnight (8pm — 5am), starting on or after Monday 28 September, the A12 northbound exit slip road at J20A, Hatfield Peverel. 

For full weekend closures, northbound traffic would be diverted to take the A131 at Boreham Interchange, and the A120 joining the A12 at Junction 25 to continue their journey, southbound traffic vice versa. 

For overnight closures, traffic would be diverted to continue on the A12 northbound to J21 Witham South Interchange then via the B1389 Hatfield Road to return on the A12 southbound and exit at J20B then via the B1137 The Street to continue their journey Access to properties would be maintained during the closures. 

The temporary mandatory speed limit (which would not apply to emergency service or special force vehicles), closures (which would not apply to emergency service, traffic officer, works or winter maintenance vehicles) and diversion route would be clearly indicated by traffic signs. 

The Order would come into force on 1 September 2026 and may continue in force until the works detailed above have been completed, or for a maximum duration of eighteen months, whichever is the earlier.
