TRUNK ROAD
(GREAT NORTH RUN)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A19 Trunk Road and the A184 Trunk Road, in the District of South Tyneside, for the purpose of facilitating the Great North Run event. The Order starts at 9am and ends at 5pm on Sunday 13 September 2026, continuing as necessary to facilitate the event.
The effect of the Order will be to close the:
(i) A184 eastbound carriageway between the exit and entry slip roads at Whitemare Pool Interchange, a distance of 800 metres;
(ii) A184 westbound carriageway between the exit and entry slip roads at Whitemare Pool Interchange, a distance of 800 metres;
(iii) A184 eastbound and westbound exit and entry slip roads at Whitemare Pool Interchange: and
(iv) A19 northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Lindisfarne Interchange.
During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available.
Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said event or for traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 12 September 2026 and will remain in force for as long as is necessary to facilitate the event.
