Bristol - Parking Charges Orders

CITY OF BRISTOL
CENTRAL AND OUTER CONTROLLED PARKING ZONES
PARKING CHARGES – TRAFFIC ORDERS

The City Council of Bristol hereby gives NOTICE that on 4th August 2026 it made the following traffic orders:-

A. City Council of Bristol (Central Zone, City of Bristol) (Controlled Parking) Order 2026, the effect of which is to supersede the existing pay and display parking place operating hours and charges regime whereby the existing all hours daytime, evening, night time and overnight parking charge periods are replaced by parking charges between the hours of 8.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. and with existing tariffs revised as follows:-

1. a £4.50 charge for a period of waiting of up to one hour between the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. (daytime) with an interval before the vehicle can be left again of one hour;

2. a £3.50 charge for each up to one hour period of waiting between the hours of 6.00 p.m. and 10.00 p.m. (evening) with no maximum stay and interval before the vehicle can be left again of one hour;

3. removal of night hours (between 12.00 midnight and 8.00 a.m.) and overnight hours (6.00 p.m. and 9.00 a.m. the following day) charges – there is no charge for waiting between the hours of 10.00 p.m. and 8.00 a.m. the following day; and

4. the option to pay in advance between 6.00 a.m. and 10.00 p.m. for a period of waiting within the next available charging hours period – this permits a follow-on advance payment to be made to facilitate overnight stay into the daytime hours the following day and permit a same-day advance payment to be made to facilitate a forthcoming period of waiting to commence at the beginning of the daytime hours.

All other remaining provisions within the City Council of Bristol (Central Zone, Ashley, Central and Lawrence Hill Wards, City of Bristol) (Controlled Parking) (Part I) Order 2026 are brought forward unamended.

B. City Council of Bristol (Outer Zone, City of Bristol) (Controlled Parking) Order No. 2 2026, the effect of which is to supersede the existing pay and display parking place operating hours and charges regime whereby the existing all hours daytime, evening, night time and overnight parking charge periods are replaced by parking charges between the hours of 8.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. and with existing tariffs revised as follows:-

1. a £3.50 charge for each up to one hour period of waiting between the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. (daytime), with an interval before the vehicle can be left again of one hour in both the two hour daytime maximum and four hour daytime maximum stay parking places;

2. a £2.50 charge for each up to one hour period of waiting between the hours of 6.00 p.m. and 10.00 p.m. (evening) with no maximum stay, and interval before the vehicle can be left again of one hour, in all parking places; 

3. removal of night hours (between 12.00 midnight and 8.00 a.m.) and overnight hours (6.00 p.m. and 9.00 a.m. the following day) charges – there is no charge for waiting between the hours of 10.00 p.m. and 8.00 a.m. the following day; and

4. the option to pay in advance between 6.00 a.m. and 10.00 p.m. for a period of waiting within the next available charging hours period – this permits a follow-on advance payment to be made to facilitate overnight stay into the daytime hours the following day and permit a same-day advance payment to be made to facilitate a forthcoming period of waiting to commence at the beginning of the daytime hours.

All other remaining provisions within the City Council of Bristol (Outer Zone, City of Bristol) (Controlled Parking) Order 2026 are brought forward unamended.

The orders will come into operation on 10th August 2026 and copies thereof, together with plans, copies of the orders being revoked and a Statement of the Council’s Reasons for proposing to make the orders may be inspected at the Citizen Service Point, 100 Temple Street, Bristol, BS1 6AG, between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. on Monday to Friday.

Any person who desires to question the validity of, or of any provision contained in the traffic orders on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, or on the grounds that any of the relevant requirements of that Act has not been complied with in relation to the traffic order, may within six weeks after the date on which the traffic orders were made, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
