TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF PARTS OF DEFINITIVE FOOTPATHS LITFP223, LITFP225, LITFP226, LITFP229, LITFP232, LITFP233 AND LITFP234,

LITTLEBOROUGH ROCHDALE BOROUGH COUNCIL HEREBY GIVES

NOTICE that it intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make an Order, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the following footpaths:

LitFp223: The footpath starts at junction with LitFp225 and LitFp226 and proceeds in a north easterly direction for 43 metres before reaching the canal towpath at Grid Ref: 394626 417820.

LitFp225: The footpath starts at Todmorden Road at Grid Ref: E394483 N417851 and runs in an south easterly direction for 150 metres to meet with footpaths LitFp226 and LitFp223. 

LitFp226: The footpath starts at the junction with LitFp223 and LitFp225 and runs in a generally south-easterly direction for 137 metres to meet with the Rochdale Canal towpath at Grid Ref: E394678 N417696.

LitFp229: The footpath starts at Todmorden Road at Grid Ref: E394371 N417525 and runs in a generally north-east direction for 325 metres to meet at the junction with the canal towpath Grid Ref: E394680 N417596.

LitFp232: The footpath starts at Todmorden Road at Grid Ref: E394680 N417596 and runs in a south-easterly direction for 73 metres before continuing in an easterly direction for 139 metres to the junction with Footpaths LitFp233 and LitFp234.

LitFp233: The footpath starts at the junction with Footpaths LitFp232 and LitFp234 and runs in a generally northeasterly direction for 197 metres to meet the Rochdale Canal towpath at Grid Ref: E394609 N417349.

LitFp234: The footpath starts at the junction with Footpaths LitFp232 and LitFp233 and runs in a generally southerly direction for 115 metres before turning in an easterly direction to meet the Rochdale Canal towpath at Grid Ref: E394515 N417086.

No formal diversion route will be provided. Members of the public may use Todmorden Road and other available public highways to access alternative routes leading to the Rochdale Canal.

The Order is required for undertaking work to create an underground reservoir, drainage and associated works to prevent flooding in the Littleborough area.

The Order will come into operation at 08:00 hours on 13 August 2026 and will remain in force until 24:00 hours on 12 February 2027, or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier.

Plans showing the length of footpath to be closed may be viewed on the Council's website and may be inspected free of charge at Number One Riverside, Smith Street, Rochdale, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, by appointment.
