What is happening?

A21 TRUNK ROAD (JOHNS CROSS ROUNDABOUT TO NORTHBRIDGE STREET ROUNDABOUT)

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A21 Trunk Road in the County of East Sussex, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

The effect of the Order would be to: -

(a)  authorise the overnight closure of both carriageways of the A21 between Johns Cross roundabout and Northbridge Street roundabout; and

(b)  authorise the 24-hour closure of the lay-bys adjacent to the carriageways described above. These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway repairs, loop installations and all associated works.

It is expected that the work would last for approximately 1 month starting on or after Sunday 23rd August 2026.

The Order would come into force on 21st August 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete. Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted using local authority roads.

The temporary closures would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
