TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDERS 2026
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make two Orders under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians along the footpaths in Schedule 1 and all traffic along the roads in Schedule 2. The Orders are required to enable gas main repair works on or near the roads and footpaths. The Orders will come into operation on 7th September 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Orders will be 6 months for the footpaths and 18 months for the roads and it is estimated that the closures will be in place for 12 weeks. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the footpaths (except personnel involved in the works) and all vehicles, cyclists and horse riders will be prohibited from the roads (except vehicles and machinery involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Vehicular access for affected residents will be provided when essential or in an emergency and when the works are not in operation. Pedestrian access to affected properties will maintained be throughout. Alternative routes will be provided via the adjacent highway network. Schedule 1 Footpath Closures, Balmoral Crescent from the extended south-western property boundary of 1 Balmoral Crescent to the extended north-western property boundary of 34 Queensway. Balmoral Crescent from the extended north-eastern property boundary of 2 Balmoral Crescent to the extended north-western property boundary of 28 Queensway. Dunkirk Avenue from the extended north-western property boundary of 40 Queensway to the extended north-eastern property boundary of 42 Queensway. Dunkirk Avenue from the extended north-western property boundary of 46 Queensway to the extended south-western property boundary of 44 Queensway. Lawnswood from the extended north-eastern property boundary of 39 Lawnswood for a distance of 32 metres in a south-westerly direction. Lawnswood from the extended south-eastern property boundary of 38 Lawnswood for a distance of 33 metres in a south-easterly direction. Lawnswood from the extended north-eastern property boundary of 68 Lawnswood to its junction with Hall Lane. Schedule 2 Road Closures, John Street from its junction with Seaham Road to its junction with Ryhope Street. Mount Pleasant from its junction with Nesham Place for a distance of 20 metres in a south-easterly direction.
