Esh Winning - Temporary Road Closure due to Carriageway Resurfacing Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham
(Western Avenue, Esh Winning) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2026
The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road.
1. A 145 metre length of Western Avenue, that extends south westerly from its junction with B6302 Newhouse Road to outside No. 23 Western Avenue and
2. A 60 metre length of Western Avenue, that extends south westerly from No. 21/23 Western Avenue, to No. 67 Rowley Crescent
to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken.
An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from
1. The north eastern side of the closure, from B6302 south easterly on Newhouse Road then south west and north west on Rowley Crescent and Cliffords Gate, leading to Valley Drive and Briardene to the western side of the closure and
2.
a) The northern side of the closure, from Cliffords Gate and Briardene onto Valley Drive leading to Western Avenue and
b) The southern side of the closure from Rowley Crescent, south easterly onto B6302 Newhouse Drive, then north westerly to the north eastern side of the closure.
The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The works are required from 9am on Sunday 16/8/2026 and for the duration of the works anticipated to be 7 days, between 9am-3pm.
On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
