Bank Buildings Road - Prohibition of Entry Pedestrianisation Experimental Traffic Order

Bank Buildings Road (D190) Cranleigh (Prohibition of Entry) (Pedestrianisation) Experimental Traffic Order 2026

On 28 July 2026, Surrey County Council made the above-named Experimental Traffic Order under Sections 9 and 10 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”). The effect of the Order, whilst it remains in force, will be to:- 1. prohibit all vehicles, including pedal cycles, proceeding in that length of Bank Buildings Road (D190) Cranleigh that extends from its junction with Rowland Road (D664) to its junction with Onslow Mews (X11097) between the hours of 9:00am to 4:30pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays; and 2. prohibit vehicles from entering that length of Bank Buildings Road (D190) Cranleigh which lies west of the junction of Bank Buildings Road (D190) and Onslow Mews; and revoke “The Surrey County Council Bank Buildings Road (D190) Cranleigh (Prohibition of Entry) (Pedestrianisation) Experimental Traffic Order 2025”. The prohibitions will not apply in relation to: – (a) Any vehicle being used for ambulance fire brigade or police purposes in an emergency; (b) Anything done upon the direction or with the permission of a police constable in uniform; (c) Any person who causes any vehicle to proceed in accordance with any restriction or requirement indicated by traffic signs placed pursuant to Section 66 or 67 of the Act.

A copy of a plan showing the length of road to which the Order relates, a Statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Experimental Traffic Order and a Statement of the Council’s guidelines on the acceptance of objections to Traffic Regulation Orders may be viewed on-line at https://www.surreycc.gov.uk/ roads-and-transport/policies-plans-consultations/roads-andtransport- consultations. Copies may be viewed free of charge, together with a copy of the Experimental Traffic Order which will come into operation on 8 August 2026, until 5 April 2027, at: –

(i) Reception, Surrey County Council, Hazel House, Merrow Lane, Guildford, Surrey, GU4 7BQ, from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday;

(ii) Cranleigh Library, High Street, Cranleigh, GU6 8AE, from 9:30am to 5:00pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays. If you wish question the validity of the Experimental Traffic Order, or any provision contained in it, on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Act, or on the grounds that any requirement of the Act or any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Experimental Traffic Order, you may, within six weeks of the date of the making of the Order, apply to the High Court for this purpose.

If the provisions of the Experimental Traffic Order continue for a period of not less than six months, or if the Order is subsequently varied by another Order under Section 10 of the Act, or modified pursuant to Sub-section (2) of Section 10 of the Act, for a period of not less than six months from the coming into operation of that variation or modification (whatever is the latest), the Council will consider in due course whether the provisions of the Experimental Traffic Order should be reproduced and continued in force indefinitely by means of an Order Under Section 1 of the Act.

Any person desiring to object or make other representations relating to the making of the Order under Section 1 of the Act for the purpose of such reproduction and continuation in force may, within the aforementioned period of six months, send a statement in writing of their objection or representations (including any in support) and the grounds thereof in writing to the undersigned at Traffic Regulation Orders Team, Hazel House, Merrow Lane, Guildford, Surrey, GU4 7BQ.
