KIRKLEES COUNCIL (TRAFFIC REGULATION) (CONSOLIDATION ORDER PROVIDING ON-STREET PARKING PLACES, WAITING, LOADING AND STOPPING RESTRICTIONS AND MIGRATION TO A ‘MAP-BASED’ FORMAT) ORDER 2024 (AMENDMENT NO. 03) ORDER 2026
MARSDEN LANE & WAREHOUSE HILL ROAD/WAREHOUSE HILL, MARSDEN
The Council of the Borough of Kirklees propose to make the above Order under their powers in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which, as it affects a lengths of roads in the Marden area of the Kirklees district, will be to amend the Kirklees Council (Traffic Regulation) (Consolidation Order Providing On- Street Parking Places, Waiting, Loading And Stopping Restrictions and Migration to a ‘Map-Based’ Format) Order 2024 so as to: Prohibit the waiting at any time on lengths of the following roads in Marsden:
1. Marsden Lane
2. Warehouse Hill Road/Warehouse Hill
REASON: The proposed parking restrictions aim to improve accessibility along the canal towpath.
Where the towpath passes beneath the road bridge, there is a steep gradient which is very difficult to negotiate and can be very hazardous when wet or icy. The alternative route involves passing through a narrow gate with a step down into Warehouse Hill Road where no footway exists, before walking along the road with traffic and rejoining the towpath to the east (or vice versa), and the scheme would improve this route.
The gap in the fence would be widened and the step removed.
Buildouts would be provided to introduce footway sections along both sides of the road, with the road narrowed to 3.8m and priority single-file operation introduced for traffic (give-way eastbound). An uncontrolled crossing would then be introduced at the centre of the narrow section. To facilitate safe operation, prohibition of on-street parking is considered necessary in the immediate vicinity of the narrowing, as indicated by the double yellow lines shown on the plan.
