What is happening?

(Guildford Road/Rosebery Avenue/East Hill, Colchester) (Temporary Introduction of a 20 MPH Speed Restriction) & (Priory Street/High Street, Colchester) (Temporary Suspension of a One Way) & (High Street, Colchester) (Temporary Suspension of Bus Lane) & (East Street, Colchester) (Temporary Introduction of a Width Restriction) (Streetworks No.11) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

4. To temporarily suspend the one-way restriction in that length Priory Street, Colchester from its junction with Queen Street to its junction with East Hill as detailed in “The Colchester Borough (Priory Street) (One Way) order 1975”.

5. To temporarily suspend the one-way restriction in that length High Street, Colchester, from its junction with Head Street to its junction with Queen Street as detailed in “The Borough of Colchester Borough (Various Streets) (One Way) order 1963”.

6. To temporarily suspend the bus lane in that length High Street, Colchester from its junction with Queen Street for a distance of approximately 50m in a north westerly direction as detailed in “The Essex County Council (High Street, North Hill & Middleborough, Colchester) (Bus Lane) Order 2014”.

7. To temporarily introduce a 3m width restriction on that length of East Hill, Colchester, from its junction with Queen Street to its junction with Brook Street a distance of approximately 575m.

The works are scheduled to commence after 6th August 2026, as stated on a valid permit. The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the roads.

The restrictions/suspension are required for the safety of the public and workforce cycleway construction works are undertaken by Octavius Infrastructure Ltd.

The Order will come into effect on 6th August 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Chapel Street, Rowhedge) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Chapel Street, Rowhedge in the City of Colchester, from a point approximately 20m north west of its junction with Head Street for a distance of approximately 30m in a north westerly direction.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 11th August 2026 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD03166463826/G – Anglian Water Business (National)). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while stop tap replacement works are undertaken by Anglian Water Business (National).

An alternative route is available via Marsh Crescent, Head Street and vice versa.

(with access only into Chapel Street).

The Order came into effect on 23rd July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Kelvedon Road, Tiptree) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Kelvedon Road, Tiptree in the City of Colchester, from its junction with Townsend Road for a distance of approximately 220m in a north westerly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 10th August 2026 – (20:00-05:00) for 3 nights, or where stated on a valid permit (EP40045003799 – Power On). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway and footway works are undertaken by Power On.

An alternative route is available via B1023, B1024, A12, B1408, A1124, B1026, B1022, B1023 and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 23rd July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Recreation Way, Brightlingsea) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Recreation Way, Brightlingsea in the District of Tendring, from its junction with George Avenue to its junction with Bayard Avenue a distance of approximately 90m. The closure is scheduled to commence on 14th August 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP201EH2396273A – Essex County Council). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while carriageway patching works are undertaken by Essex County Council.

An alternative route is available via George Avenue, Stanley Avenue, Bayard Avenue and vice versa.

The Order came into effect on 23rd July 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Various Roads, City of Colchester) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic & Temporary Introduction of a Clearway) (No.11) Order 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Effect of the order:

    1. To temporarily close those lengths of roads in the City of Colchester as specified in the schedule.

  1. A temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ restriction will be introduced on both sides of carriageway on the above lengths of roads for the duration of the closures to facilitate the works. Signs will be installed indicating when the No Waiting restriction will be in force.

“The Essex County Council (Colchester Borough) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019” will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above lengths of roads only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.

The works being undertaken will take place within an 18 month period from 23rd July 2026 exact dates will be specified on one.network. The roads will be closed to facilitate each phase of works and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the roads.
