Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

Oxford, Bonn Square

Prohibition of Through Traffic and Waiting

Date of Order: 03/08/2026

Coming into force: 10/08/2026

This Order is being introduced because of carriageway reconstruction works which are anticipated to take until 04/09/2026 to complete. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding or waiting in that part of Bonn Square at the junction with New Road/Castle Street/St Ebbes. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. The alternative route for traffic, including buses is via Castle Street, Norfolk Street, Speedwell Street, St Aldates, and vice versa. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.

Notice of Temporary Prohibition of Vehicles

Oxford, Botley Road

Date of Order: 17 August 2026

Coming into force: 24 August 2026

This Order is being introduced because of carriageway resurfacing and associated works which are anticipated to be completed 31 August 2026. This will operate between 20:00 and 06:00hrs. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit through traffic and waiting in that part of the Botley Road between its junctions with Abbey Road and Binsey Lane. Access will be maintained for cyclists and pedestrians. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when and where the measures are in force. The alternative route for traffic will be signed locally and on the ring road. Exemptions are included for emergency vehicles, the Works and for access to property. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.

Notice of Temporary Traffic Order

Oxford, Oxpens, Footpath Nos. 320/116/30 and 320/4/20

Date of Order: 3/8/2026

Coming into force: 15/8/2026

This Order continues in force a closure commenced by emergency Notice on 24/07/2026 introduced because of the construction of a new pedestrian footbridge from Oxpens Meadow to Grandpont Nature Park which is anticipated to take until 31/08/2027 to be completed. The effect of the Order is to close temporarily those parts of footpath Nos.320/116/30 from the Ice Rink to the PROW interchange; and No.320/4/20 between the rail bridge and the Gas works bridge. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for pedestrian access to property which is only accessible from the closed sections of footpath. The alternative routes are signed locally. Appropriate signs will be displayed to indicate when and where the measures are in force. This Order will remain in force initially for a maximum period of 6 months, and a request will be sent for consent to extend the order to the Secretary of State for Transport.

Oxford to Harcham, A34 Southbound

Prohibition of Through Traffic

Date of Order: 24/7/2026

Coming into force: 17/8/2026

This Order is being introduced because of asphalt resurfacing works which are anticipated to take until 30/9/2026 to complete. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding in the length of the A34 southbound carriageway between the Pear Tree Roundabout and the Marcham Interchange with hard shoulder/layby closures at work sites, from 20:00 to 06:00 nightly and some weekends. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works. For the first phase of works, the alternative route for traffic affected by the closure is via the Oxford ring road (A44 South, A40 East, A4142 South, then A423 West to the A34). For the second phase of works, the alternative route is via the A423 East, A4074 (Heyford Hill) South, A415 West to Abingdon and A34. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner.

Description of Works: Replacement of old link box, 10m track excavation with 3-5 joint holes being carried out by SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN POWER DISTRIBUTION (SSEPD).

Duration: Starting on 30/09/2026

The anticipated completion date is 07/10/2026 (inclusive)

(Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders have a maximum duration of 18 months, or 6 months for footpaths, bridleways, cycle tracks and byways that are open to all traffic).

Access: Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles and for properties within the closed section of road where reasonably practicable.
