Dorset - Multiple Road Traffic Notices

Temporary Closure of Downs Lane, Yetminster
DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along DOWNS LANE, YETMINSTER, in its entirety, a distance of approximately 280 metres. 

The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. 

It will come into operation on 06 August 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 19 August 2026.

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out carriageway resurfacing works. A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.

Temporary Closure of A357, Shillingstone
DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. 

It will come into operation on 8th September 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however, it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 15th September 2026.

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out carriageway maintenance and resurfacing works.

The effect of the order is as follows:
[1] To impose temporary road closure on A357, Shillingstone from junction with Norton Lane to junction with Gains Cross Lane (in both directions), a distance of approximately 1500 metres. Please note the closures will be in operation, as and when indicated by signs on site. Advanced warning signs will be placed on the road two weeks advance of the closure to indicate the exact dates the closure will affect the roads. 

[2] To impose clearway and parking suspension as indicated by signs on site to prevent waiting or parking on the highway along A357, Shillingstone from junction with Norton Lane to junction with Gains Cross Lane (in both directions), a distance of approximately 1500 metres. Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any restriction imposed by this Notice may be removed under the provisions of the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986.

Temporary Closure of Various Roads, Sturminster Newton
DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along Various Roads, Sturminster Newton as listed: [i] C20, Sturminster Newton from outside March House, Rivers Corner, Sturminster Newton to outside Barnhaven Farm, Rivers Corner, Sturminster Newton; [ii] C98, Sturminster Newton from junction with C20 to a point 30 metres to the east. 

The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. 

It will come into operation on 3rd August 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 14th August 2026.

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out drainage investigation and associated repair works.

A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.

Temporary Traffic Management Order of A37, Melbury Osmond
DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. 

The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. 

It will come into operation on 05 August 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 26 August 2026.

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out carriageway resurfacing works.

The effect of the Order is as follows:
[1] To impose a temporary road closure on A37, MELBURY OSMOND between the county boundary and The Sheaf of Arrows, a distance of approximately 1360 metres.

[2] To impose a parking suspension as indicated by signs on site to prevent parking on the highway along A37, MELBURY OSMOND between the county boundary and The Sheaf of Arrows, a distance of approximately 1360 metres.

[3] To impose a clearway as indicated by signs on site to prevent parking on the highway along A37, MELBURY OSMOND between the county boundary and The Sheaf of Arrows, a distance of approximately 1360 metres.

Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any restriction imposed by this Order may be removed under the provisions of the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986. A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.

Notice of Confirmation of a Public Path Diversion
and
Definitive Map and Statement Modification Order Highways Act 1980

(Part of Footpath 48, Thorncombe at Newhouse Farm) Public Path Diversion Order 2025

On 17 July 2026 Dorset Council confirmed the above-named order made under Section 119 of the Highways Act 1980 as unopposed and the Council has certified that work has been carried out to bring the site of the new highway mentioned in article 3 of the order into a fit condition for use by the public.

The effect of the order as confirmed is to divert part of Footpath 48, Thorncombe
as shown on the order map as follows:

From the existing path:
From Yawlings Farm at ST 3494 0230 south south west through a field and then south west across another field and a wooded area and into another field and then west south west through woodland and the garden of Newhouse Farm, passing to the north of the house before joining Bridleway 52, Thorncombe at ST 3455 0181 to the west of Newhouse Farm. Width: 1.5 metres

To the new path:
From its junction with Bridleway 47 and Footpath 49, Thorncombe at ST 3507 0206 west through a field gate to ST 3505 0206, then generally south west and south south west through a field to ST 3476 0179, then through a pedestrian gate and into another field and generally south south west to ST 3458 0161, generally west to ST 3455 0161, through a field gate into another field and south west to join Bridleway 52 at ST 3452 0159. Width: 2 metres

The order comes into force on 24 July 2026 but if any person aggrieved by the order wants to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the ground that it is not within the powers of the Highways Act 1980, as amended, or on the ground that any requirement of the Act, as amended, or of any regulation made under the Act has not been complied with in relation to the order, he or she may, under paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Act as applied by paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 to the Act, within six weeks from 30 July 2026, make an application to the High Court.
