(LLOYDS TOUR OF BRITAIN WOMEN 2026 – STAGE 1 COCKERMOUTH) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to facilitate the holding of the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women 2026 – Stage 1 Cockermouth cycle race (“the Event”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the 1984 Act), the effect of which is to:-
Prohibit any motor vehicle from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in Schedules 1 – 5 inclusive during the hours specified in the said Schedules (or earlier if required by a police constable in uniform or by a civil enforcement officer or a traffic marshal for the Event) until the time when normal traffic operation can be resumed at the direction of a police constable in uniform.
Suitable alternative routes for motor vehicles will be signed on site if applicable.
NB: The 20 mph, 30 mph, 40 mph and 50 mph speed restrictions which are in force on any of the roads specified in Schedules 1 – 5 inclusive below will be suspended during the times specified in those Schedules, or at the time when normal traffic operation can be resumed at the direction of a police constable in uniform.
- Prohibit any person from causing or permitting any motor vehicle to wait at any time or to load/unload, (including waiting for the purpose of delivering or collecting goods) along the lengths of road specified in Schedule 6 during the hours specified in the said Schedule. NB: This restriction also applies to disabled badge holders.
Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:
a) Apply to any motor vehicle being used for police, fire brigade or ambulance purposes, or the purpose of an undertaker in an emergency, such as the loss of supplies of gas, electricity or water to premises in the area, which necessitates the bringing of motor vehicles into the section of road to which the order applies; and
b) Any vehicles being used for the removal of any obstruction of traffic; and
c) Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a civil enforcement officer or a traffic marshal of the Event; and
d) Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the roads, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the roads; and
e) Apply to motor vehicles or pedal cycles being used in connection with or to facilitate the Event (including but not limited to those used for stewarding, crowd management and traffic management purposes) or the safe running of the Event.
f) Apply other than at such times and to such extent as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.
Additional roads may also be restricted at the direction of a police constable in uniform, to facilitate the Event routes.

The Order will come into operation at 00.01 hours on 19 August 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of three days from that date. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 1 day and only during the times stated in the Schedules and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.

N.B It is anticipated that these roads will only be closed for short periods as the race progresses:
- U2285 Market Place, Cockermouth, from its junction with Castlegate to its junction with Saint Helen’s Street;
- U2285 Kirkgate, Cockermouth, from its junction with Market Place to its junction with Victoria Road;
- B5292 Lorton Road, Cockermouth, from its junction with Kirkgate to its junction with Hundith Hill Road;
- C2027 Blindbothel, from its junction with the B5292 to its junction with the A5086;
- A5086, from its junction with the C2027 to its junction with the C2030;
- C2030 Ullock, from its junction with the A5086 to its junction with the C4006;

- B5302 Silloth from its junction with the B5300 (Prospect Place), extending in an overall north westerly direction for a total distance of approx. 650m to its junction with Eden Street/Skiddaw Street, along Eden Street and Criffel Street to the junction with Liddell Street/Petteril Street, then along Petteril Street to its junction with the A596;
- A596 Wigton, from its junction with the B5302 leading to Waverbridge to its junction with the B5302 leading to Wigton;
- B5302 Wigton, from its junction with the A596 to its junction with the B5304;
- B5304 Wigton, for its entire length;
- C2041 Caldbeck from its junction with the A596 to its junction with the B5299;

From 07:00 hours to 17:00 hours on Wednesday 19 August 2026: –
Cockermouth
- South Street, from its junction with Station Street extending in a westerly direction for approx. 180m.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of South Street, A5086, Station Road, and the B5292.
SCHEDULE 4 - ROAD CLOSURES
From 09:00 hours to 11:30 hours on Wednesday 19 August 2026: –
Cockermouth
- Crown Street from its junction with Gote Brow, to its junction with Sullart Street; and
- Sullart Street/Gallowbarrow from its junction with Crown Street, to its junction with Station Road.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the A5086, A66, and A595.
SCHEDULE 5 - ROAD CLOSURES
From 14:00 hours to 15:45 hours on Wednesday 19 August 2026: –
- A595, from its junction with the A591 at Bothel, to its junction with the A594 near Cockermouth.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the A595, A66, and A591.
