The Order is necessary to allow closure required to allow access/assessment of bridge.

The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any person from driving a vehicle or causing or permitting a vehicle to be driven on Old Road, Ashton in Makerfield from 10th August 2026 to 30th August 2026.
The alternative route for traffic is: Cansfield Grove – Wigan Road. The Order is necessary to allow a gas main replacement scheme.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Assistant Director Infrastructure and Regulatory Services of the Wigan Borough Council in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and delegated to her by the said Council proposes to make the Wigan Borough (Prescott Street, Wigan) (Temporary Closure) Order 2026.
The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any person from driving a vehicle or causing or permitting a vehicle to be driven on Prescott Street, Wigan on 4th September 2026 to 5th September 2026 from 22:00 to 06:00 only.
The alternative route for traffic is Frog Lane – Dorning Street – King Street West – Wallgate – Pottery Road – Southgate – Saddle Junction – Wallgate – Miry Lane.
The Order is necessary to install a replacement chevron signage to the structure.
Notice of Confirmation of Public Path Order Town & Country Planning Act 1990 Section 257 and Paragraph 7 of Schedule 14
Wigan Borough Council (The Diversion of Public Footpath Standish No.20 (Part) and Creation of Public Footpath Standish 20a) (Public Path Diversion and Creation) Order 2024
On the 23rd July 2026, Wigan Borough Council confirmed the above order.
The effect of the order as confirmed is to stop-up:
• Public footpath Standish No. 20 is described in the Definitive Statement for Standish as: “From the junction with Path No. 19 near the Grove and eastwards crossing the one railway track and passing under a second embankment by a subway and joining Chorley Road south of Douglas House.” Part of public footpath Standish No.20 will be stopped up from its junction with Grove Lane at Point A on the plan at grid reference 356928 409913 to Point B on the plan at grid reference 357225 409795 for a distance of approximately 320 metres in a south easterly direction.
And create an alternative footpath, for use as a replacement, on:
• Public footpath Standish No. 20 will be diverted and commence from Grove Lane at Point A on the plan at grid reference 356928 409913, from which it runs south easterly to Point C on the plan at grid reference 357122 409743 for a distance of approximately 275 metres, before going north then east along residential roads/pavements to the continuation of the existing public footpath at Point B on the plan at grid reference 357225 409795 for a distance of approximately 148 metres. The surface will be self-binding gravel, 2 metres wide with a wooden gate at point A. The surface on the residential road/pavement will be bitmac.
• Public footpath Standish No.20A will be created and commence from public footpath Standish No.20 at Point C on the plan at grid reference 357122 409743, from which it runs south to its junction with public bridleway Standish No.21 at Point D on the plan at grid reference 357173 409691 for a distance of approximately 75 metres. The surface will be self-binding gravel, 2 metres wide.

A copy of the confirmed order and the order map may be seen free of charge at Wigan Town Hall, Library Street, Wigan, WN1 1YN from 9am to 4:30pm on any day Monday to Friday or requested by emailing S.Eccles-Churton@wigan.gov.uk Copies of the order and map may be bought there at the price of £1. The order comes into force on 4th August 2026, but if any person aggrieved by the order desires to question its validity or that of any provision contained in it on the ground that it is not within the powers of the above Act, or on the ground that any requirement of that Act or any regulation made under it has not been complied with in relation to the confirmation of the order, he or she may apply to the High Court for any of these purposes under section 287 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 within 6 weeks from the date on which notice is first published as required by Paragraph 7 of Schedule 14 to that Act.

Wigan Borough Council (Public Footpath Ince No.11 (Part) & 12 (Part)) Public Path Diversion Order 2025
On the 11th June 2026 Wigan Borough Council confirmed the above order.
The effect of the order as confirmed is to divert the public footpath:
• Public footpath Ince No.11 is to be stopped up at point C on the map at grid reference 359794 404801, in a generally southerly direction for approximately 130 metres to point D on the map at grid reference 359757 404692 at its junction with Laburnum Avenue.
• Public footpath Ince No.12 is to be stopped up at point A on the map at grid reference 360216 404703, in a generally westerly direction for approximately 450 metres to point B on the map at grid reference 359807 404750 at its junction with public footpath Ince No.11. and create alternative footpaths for use as a replacement:
• The alternative route for public footpath Ince No.11 will run from Point C on the map at grid reference 359794 404801 in a generally southerly direction for approximately 150 metres to Point D on the map at grid reference 359757 404692 at its junction with Laburnum Avenue.
• The alternative route for public footpath Ince No. 12 will run from Point A on the map, west, before, heading south then west again for a short distance 5 metres east from Point B on the map.
