On 23 July 2026 North Somerset Council confirmed the above Orders, made under Section 257 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. The effect of the Orders as confirmed is to divert parts of Public Footpaths LA2/32 and LA2/31 in the Parish of Backwell within the District of North Somerset as described.

Order No.4 2026 Public Footpath LA2/32. From point A (Grid ref ST48074 68536) north to point F (Grid point ST48076 68733) as shown by a black solid line on Map No. PP0 219 Total length to be diverted 202m. To the new route is to start at point A (Grid point ST48074 68536) running first northwesterly approximately 5m to point B (Grid point ST48071 68540) then north approximately 76m to point C (Grid point ST48071 68616) then north approximately 54m through point C1 (Grid point ST48071 68637) to point D (Grid point ST48071 68670) then north northeasterly approximately 45m to point E (Grid point ST48077 68714) then north northwesterly for 18m to point F (Grid point ST48076 68733) as shown by a black broken line on Map No. PP0 219 Total length new route 198m. The new surface will be tarmacked and be a width of 2m from Point A to C1 and 3 metres from C1 to F.

Order No.5 Of 2026 Public Footpath LA2/31. From point A (Grid ref ST48173 68695) southeasterly to point D (Grid point ST48214 68672) as shown by a black solid line on Map No. PP0 220. Total length to be diverted 49m. To the new route is firstly to start at point A (Grid point ST48173 68695) running south southeasterly approximately 11m to point B (Grid point ST48175 68685) then easterly approximately 18m through point C (Grid point ST48193 68683) then southeasterly approximately 24m to point D (Grid point ST48214 68672) and secondly to start at point A (Grid point ST48173 68695) to run west northwesterly to point A1 (Grid point ST48169 68698) a distance of approximately 5m as shown by a black broken line on Map No. PP0 220. Total length new route 58m. The new surface will be tarmacked from point A to point D and have a width of 2m.

The Orders come into force on 20 August 2026 but, if any person aggrieved by the Orders desires to question their validity, or that of any provision contained in them, on the ground that it is not within the powers of the Highways Act 1980, as amended, or on the ground that any requirement of the Act, as amended, or of any regulation made under the Act has not been complied with in relation to the Orders, he or she may under paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Act as applied by paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 to the Act, within six weeks from 29 July 2026, make an application to the High Court.

West Town Road, Backwell, North Somerset

Temporary Prohibition of Use by Vehicles and Cyclists

Date coming into force: 1 September 2026

Will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles and cyclists the lengths of roads specified in the Schedule to this Notice.

This order is required because of carriageway surfacing works and will become operative on 1 September 2026, anticipated to be for 14 nights.

The closure will be in place between 8pm and 6am. The maximum period for the closure is eighteen months, however, the closure may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works.

Schedule - West Town Road, Backwell from the junction with Rushmoor Grove to 52 Farleigh Road.

Notice is hereby given that North Somerset Council in pursuance of the provisions of section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, intend to make an order the effect of which:

Footpath LA8/5/40 and Footpath LA8/4/10, Easton-in-Gordano, North Somerset

This order is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon work by contractor is for Metrowest for rail project associated demolition and construction works. This order will become operative on the 7 September 2026 for a maximum period of six months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works which is anticipated to be of 6 months in duration. Appropriate pedestrian traffic signs will be displayed when the measures are in force.

This order is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public consequent upon work by North Somerset Council for bridge structure strengthening works and resurfacing as part of the Metro West project. This order will become operative on the 12 October 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closure may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works which is anticipated to be of 106 days in duration. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed when the measures are in force.

Schedule - Station Road from approximately 100m north of the junction with The Portbury Hundreds to the railway bridge. Sheepway from the railway bridge to outside Elm Tree Farm. Please be advised that this closure will follow on from the existing Sheepway closure.

This order will become operative on the 17 October 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closures and restrictions may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works which is anticipated to be of 6 hours in duration between 9.30am and 3.30pm. The Triangle and Chapel Hill, Clevedon, North Somerset

Temporary Prohibition of Use by Vehicles and Cyclists Order 2026

Date coming into force: 3 August 2026

Will be to close, temporarily, to vehicles and cyclists the lengths of roads specified in the Schedule to this Notice.

This order was required because of infrastructure improvements and will become operative on 3 August 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the closures may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works. It is anticipated closure of this section of The Triangle will be for a period of approximately 14 weeks however the Closure of Chapel Hill is anticipated to begin in September for a period of approximately 7 weeks.

Schedule - The Triangle: the section of The Triangle on the southwestern side of the clock tower outside numbers 11 and 13. Chapel Hill: Chapel Hill from its junction with The Triangle to a point 10m in a northwestern direction.

Old Street, Clevedon, North Somerset

Temporary Prohibition of Waiting and Loading Order 2026

Date coming into force: 3 August 2026

Ref: T25-66

Is to temporarily prohibit waiting and loading to all vehicles on the lengths of roads specified in the Schedule to this Notice. Exemptions are included for emergency services, works access and enforcement of the restrictions.

This order was required because of the need to implement measures for public safety and the facilitation of road works as part of the BSIP (Bus Service Improvement Plan) works being undertaken by North Somerset Council. This order became operative on the 3 August 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the prohibition of waiting and loading may not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works. It is anticipated the prohibition of waiting and loading will be for a period of approximately 14 weeks. Appropriate traffic signs and/or road markings will be displayed when and where the measures are in force.

The Triangle, Clevedon, North Somerset

Temporary Prohibition of Movement Order 2026

Date coming into force: 3 August 2026

Ref: T26-67

Is (1) to prohibit, temporarily, any vehicle from making a right turn (a) from The Triangle (northwestern side of the clock tower) onto the north to south section of The Triangle that is the B3133.

This order was necessary in the interest of public safety and the facilitation of road works as part of the BSIP (Bus Service Improvement Plan) works being undertaken by North Somerset Council. The restrictions became operative on the 3 August 2026 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the prohibitions and restriction will not be implemented for the whole of the period but only as necessitated by the works. The restrictions will be implemented in such a way to always maintain access to and from this section of The Triangle via the alternative routes described below.
