Lord Street Area - Temporary Prohibition of Driving

OLDHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL

THE OLDHAM - LORD STREET AREA, OLDHAM

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF DRIVING ORDER 2026 AND ONE-WAY ORDER

The Oldham Borough Council intend to make Temporary Orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be to:

1. Prohibit vehicles from proceeding along the following lengths of highways:
Lord Street, Oldham from its junction with Rock Street to its junction with High Street.
Church Lane at its junction with Lord Street for its full length.
High Street from its junction with Lord Street for a distance of 40m in an easterly direction.

2. Reverse the existing one-way traffic restriction to permit traffic to proceed in a south-westerly direction only along that part of Church Terrace, Oldham from its junction with Church Street for its full length to its junction with High Street

3. Revoke the existing one-way traffic restriction, permitting two-way traffic movement along that part of Church Street, Oldham from its junction with Church Terrace for its full length to its junction with St Mary’s Way.

Not all areas will be closed/restricted at the same time.

Signs will clearly mark alternative routes. Pedestrian diversions will be in place and clearly signed when restrictions are in place.

The Order is to be made to allow regeneration works on Market Place including works to replace paving and carriageway resurfacing as part of Accessible Oldham. and will be in force for 18 months from 10th August 2026, or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
