What is happening?

Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.
MAIDSTONE AND TONBRIDGE & MALLING AREAS
A229 Blue Bell Hill, A229 Chatham Road & A229 Maidstone Road, Bluebell Hill, ME5 9FF (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER 2026
To allow multi spectral works activities to be carried out as part of the High Speed Road Programme, Kent County Council intends to make an Order to temporarily prohibit through traffic on parts of A229 Blue Bell Hill, A229 Chatham Road & A229 Maidstone Road, Bluebell Hill, on or after 17th August 2026 for up to 4 nights or until the works have been completed.
A229 Blue Bell Hill, A229 Chatham Road & A229 Maidstone Road will be closed between Cobtree Roundabout and Lord Lees Roundabout as follows:
South Bound closed 17th August, with estimated completion by 19th August, between the hours of 22:00 and 05:00 only. To the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
North Bound closed 19th August, with estimated completion by 21st August, between the hours of 22:00 and 05:00 only. To the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.
The alternative Motorway route for any South bound traffic is via Lord Lees Roundabout, Taddington Roundabout, M2 J3 (coast bound), M2 coastbound, M2 J5, A249 south bound, M20 J7 London bound, M20 London bound, M20 J6, A229 Bluebell Hill.
The alternative Motorway route for any North bound traffic is via M20 J6 (coastbound), M20 coastbound, A249 northbound, M2 J5 (London bound), M2 London bound, M2 J3, Taddington Roundabout, Lord Lees Roundabout, A229 Bluebell Hill.
