York - Multiple Temporary Road Closures and Traffic Restrictions due to Works
What is happening?
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), on Thursday, 23 July 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5) & (6). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (7), (8), (9), (10), (11), (12) & (13).
(1) TUDOR ROAD, ACOMB
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Tudor Road, Acomb between its junctions with Stuart Road and Gale Lane (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken commencing at 0930hrs on Monday, 27 July 2026 and ending at 1430hrs on Monday, 27 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Stuart Road, Danesfort Avenue, Gale Lane. Any specific resident vehicle access requirements may be arranged by speaking to the site traffic management operatives. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout.
(2) OUTGANG LANE, OSBALDWICK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Outgang Lane, Osbaldwick between a location 290 metres north-east of its junction with Murton Way and a point 183 north-east of said location (closed roads) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 27 July 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1800hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
(3) MOOR LANE, WOODTHORPE
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Moor Lane, Woodthorpe between its roundabout controlled junction with Tadcaster Road and a point 52 metres north-west of said junction (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Monday, 27 July 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 1900hrs and 0600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Moor Lane, Askham Lane, Gale Lane, Thanet Road, St Helen's Road, Tadcaster Road.
(4) LOW MILL CLOSE, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Low Mill Close, York between the projected southern boundary of the property known as Field View and a point 213 metres north-west of said boundary (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0830hrs on Monday, 27 July 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 14 August 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0900hrs and 1600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Alternative on street parking within resident parking zone R39A for affected residents has been arranged during the works period when Low Mill Close is closed. Emergency access will be maintained throughout. Additionally, a section of footpath between Low Mill Close and Field Lane will be closed during the works period with a pedestrian diversion signed during the works period.
(5) MILLFIELD LANE, POPPLETON
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Millfield Lane, Poppleton between the projected north-west boundary of property No. 114 and a point 16 metres south-east of Millfield Lane Level Crossing (closed carriageway) during the period when electrical mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 27 July 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Sunday, 30 August 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Low Poppleton Lane, Boroughbridge Road, A1237, Millfield Lane. Access for residents, businesses and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout. Additionally, a section of footpath on Millfield Lane adjacent to Nidd Close will be closed during the works period. A separate diversion for pedestrians and cyclists will be signed.
(6) RAWCLIFFE DRIVE & RAWCLIFFE LANE, CLIFTON
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Rawcliffe Drive & Rawcliffe Lane, Clifton (i) on Rawcliffe Drive between its junctions with Rawcliffe Lane and the projected north-eastern boundary of property No. 1A and (ii) on Rawcliffe Lane between its junctions with Fairway and the projected north-western boundary of property No. 34 (closed roads) during the period when highway works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Tuesday, 28 July 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Thursday, 30 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Rawcliffe Lane, Clifton, Water Lane, Green Lane. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
(7) EASTFIELD LANE, DUNNINGTON
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Eastfield Lane, Dunnington between the projected north-eastern boundary of property No. 65 and a point 76 metres north-east of said boundary (closed roads) during the period when drainage mains works are being undertaken thereon commencing at 0730hrs on Monday, 03 August 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 11 September 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Eastfield Lane, Stamford Bridge Road, Church Balk. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
(8) WATER LANE, DUNNINGTON
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Water Lane, Dunnington between its junctions with Common Road and Westwood Mews (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Monday, 03 August 2026 and ending at 1600hrs on Tuesday, 04 August 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0900hrs and 1600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Common Road, The Green, Water Lane. Resident access may be arranged by speaking with site traffic management operatives, who will co-ordinate with residents' requirements around the ongoing construction operations. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout.
(9) BISHOPTHORPE ROAD & EBOR STREET, YORK
This Order will prohibit pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footway on Bishopthorpe Road and Ebor Street, York (i) on both sides of Bishopthorpe Road between the projected north-eastern boundaries of property No's. 22 and 28 and (ii) on both sides of Ebor Street between its junction with Bishopthorpe Road and the projected western boundary of property No. 7 (closed footway) during the period when traffic signal renewal works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Monday, 03 August 2026 and ending at 1900hrs on Saturday, 15 August 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the footway will be closed between 0900hrs and 1900hrs Monday to Friday and between 0900hrs and 1700hrs Saturday and Sunday during the works period. An alternative route for diverted pedestrians will not be signed during the works period. Resident access will be maintained throughout. Additionally, all 'on-street' parking places situated on the North side of Scarcroft Road between its junctions with Nunthorpe Road and Russell Street will be suspended during the works period. Residents with permit references R16GM/R36GM/R40GM will be able to park in Bishopthorpe Road Car Park without penalty during the suspension. (10) YEARSLEY GROVE & WHENBY GROVE, HUNTINGTON
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Yearsley Grove and Whenby Grove, York (i) on Yearsley Grove between its junctions with Huntington Road and Yearsley Grove School and (ii) on Whenby Grove between its junctions with Yearsley Grove School and Anthea Drive to Whenby Grove (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0900hrs on Tuesday, 04 August 2026 and ending at 1600hrs on Wednesday, 05 August 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will be closed between 0900hrs and 1600hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Huntington Road, Hightorn Road, New Lane, Geldof Road, Skewsby Grove. Specific resident access may be arranged by speaking to the site traffic management operatives, who will co-ordinate with residents' requirements around the ongoing construction operations. Emergency access will be maintained throughout.
(11) BIRKDALE GROVE, ACOMB
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Birkdale Grove, Acomb between the projected south-western boundaries of property No's. 8 & 10 (closed roads) during the period when fuse upgrade works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Tuesday, 04 August 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Monday, 10 August 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for resident and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
(12) WEST BANK, ACOMB
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on West Bank, Acomb between the northern boundaries of property No's. 21 & 27 (closed roads) during the period when fuse upgrade works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Tuesday, 04 August 2026 and ending at 1800hrs on Wednesday, 12 August 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for residents and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
(13) WHEATFIELD LANE, HAXBY
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Wheatfield Lane, Haxby (i) on Wheatfield Lane between its junctions with Eastfield Avenue and Greenshaw Drive, (ii) on Greenshaw Drive between its junctions with Parkland Way and Cherry Paddock, (iii) on Green Dike between its junction with Wheatfield Lane and the projected north-western boundary of property No. 9 and (iv) on Eastfield Avenue between its junction with Wheatfield Lane and the projected south-western boundary of property No. 140 (closed roads) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 05 August 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 14 August 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the roads will be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Greenshaw Drive, Oak Tree Lane, Eastfield Avenue, Westfield Lane, Green Dike. Access for residents and emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works period.
The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
