What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS, CARTMEL) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that due to the likelihood of danger to the public whilst the Cartmel Racecourse Agricultural Show takes place on adjacent land, Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to;

(i) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a westerly direction along that section of The Causeway, from its junction with the C5041 extending in a westerly direction for its entire length.

(ii) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a north easterly direction along that section of the C5040, from its junction with The Causeway extending predominantly in a north easterly direction to its junction the U5175.

(iii) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a northerly direction along that section of the U5175 (Cavendish Street) from its junction with The Square extending in a northerly direction for its entire length.

(iv) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in an easterly direction along Priest Lane, from its junction with the U5175 extending in an easterly direction for its entire length.

(v) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along that section of the U5175 from its junction with the C5041 extending in a westerly direction for a distance of approx. 10m.

Suitable alternative routes will be signed accordingly on site.

The Order will come into operation on Wednesday 05 August 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction(s) will only be required for 1 day and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
