What is happening?
WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS IN THE SOUTH LAKELAND LOCALITY AREA) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) (NO.12) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (“the Works”), Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule.
Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 12th August 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for those dates as stated in the schedule and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

EXTENT OF RESTRICTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
1. Smithy Hill, Lindale – From 12th August 2026 for Approx. duration 3 days (Ref:TTROW/I9610)
From its junction with Back O’ The Fell Road, extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approx. 80 metres.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of Smithy Hill, C5046 and Back O’ The Fell Road.
2. Back O’ The Fell Road, Lindale – From 12th August 2026 for Approx. duration 3 days (Ref:TTROW/I9612)
From its junction with Kendal Road (B5277), extending in a north easterly direction for a distance of approx. 210 metres.
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of Back O’ The Fell Road, Holme Road, Bleacrag Road, Church Road, C5046, U5623, A590 and Kendal Road (B5277).
3. U5526 Grasmere – From 13th August 2026 for 1 night between the hours of 20:00 and 05:00 ONLY (Ref:TTROW/I9645)
From its junction with the A591, extending in an overall southerly then north easterly direction for 1.3 km.
Alternative Route: via the A591.
4. Ben Hill, Lindale – From 17th August 2026 for Approx. duration 4 days (Ref:TTROW/I9616)
From its junction with Windermere Road (B5271), extending in a easterly then northerly direction to its junction with The Gill.
Alternative Route: via The Gill and Windermere Road (B5271).
5. U5200, Haverthwaite – From 22nd August 2026 for Approx. duration 4 days (Ref:TTROW/I9615)
(i) From its junction with the C5024, extending in a north easterly, easterly then south easterly direction.
(ii) From its junction with the C5024, extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 200 metres.
There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.
6. U5796, Windermere – From 24th August 2026 for Approx. duration 5 days (Ref:TTROW/I9828)
From its junction with Patterdale Road (A592), extending in a overall easterly direction to its junction with Moorhowe Road.
Alternative Route: via Mislet Brow, U5791, A591, Ambleside Road and Patterdale Road (A592).
