M69 Motorway And A46 Trunk Road - Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic For Junction Improvement Works

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTIONS 14(1)(a) AND (7) AND 15(2)

THE M69 MOTORWAY AND A46 TRUNK ROAD 
(BINLEY WOODS TO ANSTY, WARWICKSHIRE) 
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company no. 9346363) intends to make an order on the M69 Motorway and the A46 Trunk Road between Binley Woods and Ansty, in the City of Coventry and in the County of Warwickshire, to enable junction improvement works to be carried out.

The effect of the Order, will be to –
(1) impose a speed restriction of 50 miles per hour on –
(a) the northbound carriageway of the A46 from a point 300 metres southeast of its roundabout junction with the B4082 (Walsgave Roundabout), at Walsgrave, to a point 200 metres southwest of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the link road leading to the A46 Coventry Eastern Bypass, at Ansty; and

(b) the southbound carriageway of the A46 from a point 500 metres southwest of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the link road leading from Central Boulevard, at Ansty, to a point 300 metres southeast of Walsgrave Roundabout;

(2) impose a speed restriction of 40 miles per hour on
the lengths of the A46 described in (1) above;

(3) close –
(a) the northbound carriageway of the A46 from its junction with the slip road leading to the roundabout junction with the A428 (Binley Roundabout), at Binley Woods, to its junction with the M69, near Ansty;

(b) the northbound carriageway of the M69 from its junction with the A46, near Ansty, to its junction with the link road that leads from the southbound carriageway of the M6 at Junction 2, and from the roundabout at Junction 2;

(c) the southbound carriageway of the M69 from its junction with the link road leading to the northbound carriageway of the M6 (M6 Junction 2), to its junction with the A46, near Ansty;

(d) the southbound carriageway of the A46 from its junction with the M69, near Ansty, to its junction with the slip road leading from Binley Roundabout;

(e) any slip road or link road leading to or from the lengths described in (3)(a), (b), (c) and (d) above; and 

(f) any layby adjacent to the lengths of A46 described in (3)(a) and (d); and

(4) prohibit any vehicle from entering or leaving the lengths of A46 described in (3)(a) and (d) above at its junction with any side road.

The work is expected to start on Monday 17 August 2026 and continue for approximately nineteen months.
The carriageway closures will be carried out overnight between 20:00 hours and 06:00 hours. The speed limit and layby closures will be in operation for twenty-four hours per day for the duration of the work. The Order will come into force on 16 August 2026.

Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions and closures. Vehicles being used for special forces purposes will be exempt from the speed restrictions, and vehicles being used in connection with the works or for winter maintenance purposes will be exempt from the closures.

Diversion routes via Hinckley Road, the A4600, the B4600, Sky Blue Way, the A4053, the A4114and the A444 and vice versa will be signed.
