(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A1(M) Motorway, in County Durham, to enable carriageway resurfacing, road markings renewal, road studs renewal, traffic loops and signage work to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to start on Monday 17 August 2026 for 18 nights or until completed and will take place between 8pm and 6am.
The effect of the Order will be, at times during the works, to:
(i) impose a temporary 30mph and 40mph speed restriction on the A1(M) Junction 62 Carrville Roundabout;
(ii) impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the A1(M) northbound and southbound carriageway from 62 metres south of the A181 overbridge to 177 metres south of Cocken Road overbridge, a distance of 4541 metres;
(iii) close the A1(M) Junction 62 Carrville Roundabout; and
(iv) close the A1(M) northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 62.
During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available.
Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or winter maintenance purposes). The Order comes into force on 16 August 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
