What is happening?

Hazelwood Lane (C137) and Doghurst Lane (D1083) Chipstead
Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2026

Surrey County Council propose to make the above mentioned Temporary Traffic Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) the effect of which will be to:-

(a) prohibit vehicles from entering or proceeding in the following lengths of Hazelwood Lane (C137) Chipstead:-

(i) that length of which extends from its northern arm junction with High Road to its southern arm junction with High Road;

(ii) that length of which extends from its junction with Doghurst Lane to its junction with Stagbury Close; and

(b) prohibit vehicles from entering Doghurst Lane (D1083) Chipstead at its junction High Road. This Order is required to enable BT Openreach to carry out cabling works and/or pole testing works during the 12 month period of operation of this Order which will commence on 10 August 2026. Advanced warning signs will be displayed and the temporary restrictions will only operate when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. For sub-paragraph (a)(i) and (b) above: works are anticipated to be carried out on 10/08/26 for 1 day, between 9.30am and 3.30am.

Alternative Route – Outwood Lane, Chipstead Valley Road, Portnalls Road, Coulsdon Lane and High Road or vice versa. For sub-paragraph (a)(ii) above: works are anticipated to be carried out on: 11/08/26 for 1 day, between 9.30am and 3.30am.

Alternative Route – High Road. For sub-paragraph (a)(i) and (a)(ii) above: Access to premises within the affected length of road, including access by emergency service vehicles to these properties, will be maintained at all times, Access for pedestrians, dismounted cyclists and dismounted equestrians will be escorted through the site. For sub-paragraph (b) above: The prohibition above shall not apply to vehicles being used for ambulance, fire brigade or police purposes in an emergency; or to vehicles under the direction or with the permission of a police constable in uniform, or of a sign placed pursuant to Sections 66 or 67 of the Act.
