Temporary Closing of Apton Road and the Footpath situated on the West Side of No. 18 Church Street, Bishop's Stortford

HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL:

(TEMPORARY CLOSING OF APTON ROAD AND THE FOOTPATH SITUATED ON THE WEST SIDE OF NO.18 CHURCH STREET, BISHOPS STORTFORD) ORDER 2026

NOTICE is given that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be:-

1. To prohibit all vehicular traffic from using that length of Apton Road, Bishops Stortford from a point in line with the western boundary of No.18 Apton Road north eastwards to its junction with Portland Road, a distance of approximately 44m (“the Road”).
An alternative route will be via Apton Road, Newtown Road, B1529 South Street and Apton Road.

2. To prohibit all pedestrians from using the footpath situated on the west side of No.18 Church Street, Bishops Stortford from its junction with Apton Road north westwards to its junction with Church Street, a distance of approximately 58m (“the Footpath”).
An alternative route will be via the footway situated on the north side of Apton Road, the footway situated on the west side of B1529 Potter Street and the footway situated on the south side of Church Street.

The Order is needed because utility service works are proposed to be executed on or near the Road and Footpath.
The Order will come into effect from 27 July 2026 and will be valid for a period of 6 months. The works are scheduled to take 5 days to complete and will only take effect on the days and times indicated by signs on or near the Road and Footpath.
