THE M5 AND M42 MOTORWAYS (M5 JUNCTION 4A TO M42 JUNCTION 3) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M5 and M42 Motorways in the Counties of Worcestershire and Warwickshire, to enable drainage works to be carried out.
The effect of the order will be to close -
(1) the eastbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the northbound carriageway of the M5 (M5 Junction 4a), to its junction with the entry slip road at Junction 3;
(2) the westbound carriageway of the M42 from its junction with the exit slip road at Junction 3, to its junction with the southbound carriageway of the M5 (M5 Junction 4a);
(3) the link road leading from the southbound carriageway of the M5, to the eastbound carriageway of the M42;
(4) the link road leading from the westbound carriageway of the M42, to the northbound carriageway of the M5;
(5) any slip road leading to or from the M42 at Junction 1, Junction 2 or Junction 3;
(6) any emergency refuge area adjacent to the eastbound carriageway of the M42 described in (1) above; and
(7) any emergency refuge area adjacent to the westbound carriageway of the M42 described in (2) above.
The work will be carried out overnight, between 21.00 hours and 06.00 hours and is expected to start on Monday 10 August 2026 and continue for approximately six months. The Order will come into force on 7 August 2026.
Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority, ambulance or traffic officer purposes and vehicles being used in connection with the work or for winter maintenance purposes will be exempt from the closures.
Diversion routes for the link road closures will be via alternative junctions of the M5 and the M42. Diversion routes for the main carriageway closures will be via the A38, the A448, the A441, the A4023 and the A435 and vice versa. Diversions will be signed.
