THE CITY OF SOUTHAMPTON

(WINCHESTER ROAD ACCESS IMPROVEMENTS)

(TRAFFIC CALMING WORKS) NOTICE 2024

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT SOUTHAMPTON CITY COUNCIL in accordance with Section 90H of the Highways Act 1980 and The Highways (Traffic Calming) Regulations 1999 intends to construct the following traffic calming works:

  1. Build-outs on both sides of Winchester Road at its (closed) junction with Thornhill Road to provide a widened footway to facilitate the introduction of a Toucan Crossing. The existing pedestrian refuge island would be removed.

  2. Build-outs on both sides of Winchester Road south-west of the junction with Butterfield Road to provide a widened footway to facilitate the introduction of a Toucan Crossing. The existing pedestrian refuge island would be removed.

  3. Rearrangement of the build-outs at the existing Toucan Crossing across Winchester Road south-west of Vermont Close. The build-out on the north-west side of Winchester Road would be removed, with the build-out on the south-east side being widened

Copies of the relevant map can be viewed on the Councils website: https://transport.southampton.gov.uk/TRO or may be inspected Monday - Friday, 10am - 3pm at Gateway in the Civic Centre, Southampton SO14 7LY.

Any person wishing to object or make any other representation relating to this notice must do so in writing via the Councils website: https://transport.southampton.gov.uk/TRO or by post to the Traffic Regulation Team at Balfour Beatty Living Places, City Depot, First Avenue, Southampton, SO15 0LJ quoting the order title and, where objecting, stating the grounds for the objection, within 21 days of the date of this notice (i.e. by 7th August 2026).

Please note that all representations submitted, including the name and address of the person submitting it, may be made available for public inspection.
