What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (B5299) SHADDONGATE AND BRIDGE LANE, CARLISLE (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable highway works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to:
1. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the left hand lane of the B5299 Shaddongate, Carlisle from its junction with John Street to its junction with A595 Bridge Street. Vehicles wishing to access Bridge Lane and Willow Holme Industrial Estate should proceed along John Street onto the A595 Church Street (south bound), around Caldewgate Roundabout onto the A595 Church Street and Bridge Street. All other vehicles travelling and turning right onto the A595 Bridge Street and Castle Way will be filtered into the right hand lane and proceed as normal.
2. Prohibit any vehicle from making a right turn from Bridge Lane/ Willow Holme Industrial Estate onto the A595 Bridge Street. Vehicles wishing to access Bridge Street should turn left and continue along the A595 Castle Way, around Hardwicke Circus, back onto the A595 Castle Way and Bridge Street (westbound). A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 3 August 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 13 weeks, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
