TORCROSS URGENT WORKS
The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out urgent coastal defence repair works at Torcross Beach, Torcross (NGR: SX 8235542133). The proposed repair works will involve the following:
• construction of a rock armour revetment through the placement of rock armour (circa 58,000 tonnes) along an approximate 390 m length of the existing sea wall at Torcross;
• extension of the existing staircase by approximately 10 m to the south;
• localised void grouting and repairs;
• a 30 m extension of the slipway with sheet-piled perimeter and sheet piling to close the breach at the northern end of the proposed development.
The Environment Agency considers that the urgent repair works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect to them. The project has been screened against Schedule 2 criteria to review the site setting, the potential effects that could arise and any mitigation and/or monitoring requirements. Where relevant, site surveys were undertaken to support this process. It is concluded that, with mitigation in place, the urgent repair works are not considered likely to have significant effects on the environment and the Environment Agency does not intend to prepare an Environmental Statement for the proposed repair works. Any mitigation and monitoring identified will be managed through a Construction Environment Management Plan (CEMP) and Environmental Action Plan (EAP). Further details of the proposed works can be obtained by contacting the Environment Agency Project Manager at the address below. Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice.
