Cumberland - Multiple Temporary Road Closures Due To Resurfacing Works
What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (A6071 BRAMPTON TO LONGTOWN) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable resurfacing works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule.
The Works will be carried out in phases, though the phased works will not necessarily be done in numerical order.
Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 2 August 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 1, 2 or 5 days as indicated in the schedule, over the 2 week period from 2 August 2026, and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

1. A6071 Bush on Lyne - Approx. duration 5 days
From its junction with C1007, to its junction with the U1061.
2. A6071 Smithfield - Approx. duration 2 days
From its junction with C1007, to its junction with the C2012.
3. A6071 Smithfield - Approx. duration 2 days
From its junction with the C2012, extending to a point adjacent to the property Halfway House.
4. A6071 Newtown - Approx. duration 2 days
From its junction with Pump Cottage, extending to its junction with C1013.
5. A6071 Crooked Holme - Approx. duration 1 days
From its junction with Cambreck Bridge, extending to Crooked Holme.
6. A6071 Irthing - Approx. duration 1 days
From a point approx. 270m north west of its junction with Greenfield Lane, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 1.8km to Irthing Bridge.
7. A6071 Longtown - Approx. duration 1 days
From its junction with the U1061, to its junction with the A7.
A suitable alternative route for vehicles during the phased works detailed above will be available via the unrestricted sections of the A6071, A7, A689, and B6264.
