Carlisle - Multiple Temporary Road Closures Due To Patching & Resurfacing Works
What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (LIGHTFOOT DRIVE, CARLISLE, B5299 DALSTON, NETHER WELTON, U1023 NEAR EASTON AND C1014 NEWBIGGIN ROAD, DURDAR) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable carriageway patching and resurfacing works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road:
- Lightfoot Drive, Carlisle from its junction with Petteril Bank Road, extending in a south easterly direction for approx. 470m to its junction with Blundell Road.
(Ref: TTROC/17986).
Alternative Route: via Petteril Bank Road, Welsh Road and Blundell Road.
- B5299, Dalston, from its junction with Lingy Close Road, extending in an overall southerly direction towards Dalston, for approx. 1.3km.
(Ref: TTROC/18438).
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the B5299, A689, A595 and B5305 Wigton to Welton.
- U1023 near Easton from its junction with the C1006 opposite Raeburn Cottage, extending in a south easterly direction for its entire length (Ref: TTROC/19281).
There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.
- B5299 Nether Welton to Dalston, from its junction with the U1138, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 3.3km (Ref: TTROC/19433).
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the B5299, Dalston, A689, A595 and B5305 Wigton to Welton.
- C1014 Newbiggin Road, Durdar from its junction with the C1037 Burthwaite Road, extending in an overall westerly direction for approx. 320m (Ref: TTROC/19434).
Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the C1014, C1017 and C1037 Burthwaite Road.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 3 August 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the Works will be carried out within a 3 month period from 3 August 2026 and the roads will only be closed when the Works are being carried out and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. The Works will not necessarily be done in numerical order.
