What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS IN THE BARROW-IN-FURNESS LOCALITY AREA) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF ALL TRAFFIC) (NO.15) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable highway works to be carried out (“the Works”), Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists), from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule.

Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.

Westmorland and Furness Highways will ensure that local residents and the general public are informed of which roads are to be closed and when, nearer the time.

The Order will come into operation on 3rd August 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 3 months and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

EXTENT OF RESTRICTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES

1. A595 Tippins Lane, Askam-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9462)

From a point approx. 40 metres north of its junction with Ireleth Brow (C6001), extending in an overall north easterly direction for approx. 880 metres.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the A595, A5092 (Grizebeck) and the A590 (Greenodd).

2. Union Street Back Street, Dalton-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9543)

From its junction with Union Street, extending in a south westerly, south easterly then north easterly direction for approx. 150 metres.

Alternative Route: via Union Street.

3. Kent Street Back Street, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9551)

From its junction with Brook Street, extending in south easterly direction to its junction with Moorfield Street.

Alternative Route: via Moorfield Street, Devon Street and Brook Street.

4. Victoria Road Back Street, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref. TTROW/I/9553)

From its junction with South View, extending in a south easterly direction to its junction with Princess Street.

Alternative Route: via South View, Victoria Road and Princess Street.

5. Brighton Street Back Street, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9554)

From its junction with Settle Street, extending in a south easterly direction to its junction with Warwick Street.

Alternative Route: via Warwick Street, Brighton Street and Settle Street.

6. Gloucester Street Back Street, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9555)

From its junction with Brook Street, extending in a south easterly direction to its junction with Moorfield Street.

Alternative Route: via Moorfield Street, Risedale Road and Brook Street.

7. King Alfred Street Back Street, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9556)

From its junction with Euryalus Street, extending in an overall north easterly direction to its junction with Promenade Back Street.

Alternative Route: via Promenade Back Street, King Alfred Street and Euryalus Street.

8. Ocean Road Back Street, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9557)

From its junction with Juno Street, extending in a south westerly direction to its junction with Mikasa Street.

Alternative Route: via Mikasa Street, Ocean Road (A590) and Juno Street.

9. Chapel Street Back Street, Barrow-In-Furness - (Ref: TTROW/I/9558)

From its junction with Hope Road, extending in a south westerly direction to its junction with High Cleater Street.
